EAST KHASI HILLS BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES DISTRICT ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTES

Shillong August 10, 2010: The East Khasi Hills Bharat Scouts and Guides District Association with Shillong as its headquarters was constituted today in a meeting held at the Conference Room of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, District.

In a simple and solemn ceremony held, the Deputy Commissioner Mr. J. Lyngdoh along with some other Senior Officials of the District Administration besides some members from Institutions in and around Shillong were inducted into the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement. It may be mentioned that the Deputy Commissioner Mr. J. Lyngdoh by virtue of his position was made the President of the Bharat Scout and Guides Branch of the District.

The other office bearers of the East Khasi Hills Bharat Scouts and Guides District Association were Ms. C. Kharkongor and Ms. V. R. Syiem, both Additional Deputy Commissioners, Dr. (Mrs) M. P. R. Lyngdoh, and Mr. A. S. Mawlong as Vice Presidents while the Inspector of School, East Khasi Hills, Mrs. T. Lyngdoh was made the District Chief Commissioner.

As part of the induction, swearing of the Bharat Scouts and Guides Oath by all members was carried out and as a sign to show that these members were enrolled into the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement scarves and badges were presented to the new members.

Its worth mentioning here that the Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary, non political and educational movement for young people, open to all without distinction of origin, race or creed, in accordance with the purpose, principles and methods conceived by the founder Lord Baden Powell in 1907.

The purpose of the Movement is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of the local, national and international community.

Later in the day, the first District Council meeting of the East Khasi Hills Bharat Scouts and Guides District Association was held were relevant issues relating to the movement are discussed.
