CHIEF MINISTER ATTENDS 33RD BIENNIAL GENERAL CONFERENCE OF MCTA

Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K Sangma, today, attended the 33rd Biennial General Conference of Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) as the Chief Guest at St Anthony’s College, Shillong. Addressing the Inaugural Session of the conference, Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K Sangma while congratulating MCTA in its contributions towards the cause of college teachers, students and the Education sector as a whole said that it is important for all stakeholders in the Education sector not to forget the important objective of shaping the younger generations to be the champions of the future. “While it is important to maintain and improve the quality of Education, motivate the teachers and give them the right infrastructures and service conditions, it is important for all stakeholders in the Education sector to remember why we are here, to mould, guide and shape the future of the students,” he said. He added that the government is aware and concerned about the challenges in the Education sector and committed to address those issues and challenges. “For India the youth is our greatest challenge and the greatest resource and if we all stakeholders can do our part we will become a great nation and to see that our State Meghalaya surges ahead,” reiterated the Chief Minister.

Also speaking during the occasion was Minister, Education, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui who lamented that the students of the 6th Semester, NEHU had to resort to agitation for the delay in the declaration of the results. He said that this delay in the declaration of results is creating problems for students seeking admission in post graduate courses across the country. He urged the teachers to ensure that such delays and uncertainties do not happen in future and the students are not put into hardships. He added that the government is trying to address the issues and problems faced by every category of teachers and reminded the teachers of the need to work together and understand each other’s responsibilities and constraints and to work for the larger benefit of the students.

Earlier, the Chief Minister also felicitated the retired college teachers during the occasion. Among others who spoke during the Inaugural Session were President, MCTA, Dr B H Buam, Vice Principal, St Anthony’s College, Fr J Nongskeh and Vice President, MCTA, M Tariang.

CHIEF MINISTER LAUNCHES MEGHALAYA BABY LEAGUE 2019

Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K Sangma today launched the Meghalaya Baby League 2019 at a function that was held at State Convention Centre which was also attended by Minister, Sports, Shri Banteidor Lyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Smt M War Nongbri and President, Meghalaya Football Association, Shri Larsing M Sawyan. Congratulating the Meghalaya Football Association for taking the initiative in organizing the 2nd Meghalaya Baby League, Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K Sangma, said that it is important to instil in the children the reflexes and skill that is required at the right age so that it becomes a natural response and the Meghalaya Baby League is a perfect way to ensure that the children have the right exposure and the necessary guidance that will bring out the best in them to become potential football stars in the future. “This baby league will not only help them in bringing out their talents and potential in the game but will give them important values of sportsmanship, team work, discipline and that life is about winning and also losing,” said the Chief Minister. He added that the Baby League is much more than just football and will bring about a holistic development of a child. He also urged the parents to give all the necessary support to their children and said that Sports should not be seen as a distraction from studies by the parents but to actively participate in the interests of their children. Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled the Baby League Trophy and also launched the Meghalaya Football association website.
