FOUNDATION STONE FOR GREATER LAITKOR WATER SUPPLY SCHEME LAID

In response to a long felt need of the people of Laitkor Pyllun, Shri. Samlin Malngiang, Meghalaya PHE Minister today laid the foundation stone for the Greater Laitkor Water Supply Scheme in the presence of Shri. Lambor Malngiang, local MLA and MDC of Nongkrem Constituency and Chairman of the State Planning Board as well as officials of the PHE Department and the local Headman, members of the Dorbar Shnong and the Village Water And Sanitation Committee. The function held at Laitkor Pyllun Community Hall was organised by the Laitkor Dorbar Pyllun and the Village Water and Sanitation Committee, Laitkor Pyllun. Sanctioned in the month of July 2020 at an estimated cost of ` 28.99 Cr., the Greater Laitkor Water Supply Scheme will cover the villages of Laitkor Lumheh, Laitkor Rngi, Laitkor Nongdaneng and Laitkor Mawri. The scheme is set to benefit 2500 households covering 15,000 inhabitants with safe drinking water. The scheme is aimed to be completed within two years from the date of commencement.

Addressing the gathering, Shri. Samlin Malngiang lauded the tireless efforts of the local MLA and MDC in ensuring that the said scheme saw the light of day. He also informed that since 2017, a total of ` 453 Cr have been sanctioned under different Central and State schemes for the implementation of a number of developmental projects in the State through the PHE Department. With regard to the Jal Jeevan Mission, a Central government initiative which aims to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024, Shri. Malngiang said that the target of the State Government is to complete at least half of the targeted 2,04,000 household within the year 2020. He also informed that work on the improvement of the Mawkma-Laitryngew Water Supply Scheme and Mawphlang-Mawngap-Marbisu Water Supply scheme sanctioned at a cost of ` 10 Cr and ` 30 Cr respectively has commenced and will be completed soon.

Shri. Lambor Malngiang while speaking on the occasion expressed gratitude to all the landowners for voluntarily donating their lands for the implementation of the water supply scheme. He also added that in spite of the financial crisis, he was glad that the Government has been able to sanction the scheme which will go a long way in addressing the water scarcity problem faced by the people of Laitkor Pyllun for a very long time. On the occasion, a Resolution passed by the Executive Committee of the Laitkor Dorbar Pyllun and the Village Water and Sanitation Committee with regard to the smooth implementation of the scheme, was handed over the local MLA and MDC and to the Additional Chief Engineer of the PHE Department.

CONTAINMENT ORDERS

Due to the detection of positive COVID-19 cases/high risk contacts in the specific identified building in Jail Road and in the specified areas in Jhalupara and due to recent high risk and low risk contact with the COVID-19 positive cases, vulnerable and affected areas require aggressive contact tracing, quarantine, testing and isolation as well as containment in the interest of health of general public against any possible spread of COVID-19, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, in orders issued on 30th and 31st August, 2020 has declared the Matri Nawas Building at Jail Road, the houses of Raj Jaiswal and Nabin Chettri in Gopalji Compound at Jhalupara and the houses of Vishnu Chettri and Dinesh Thapa in Maya Compound at Jhalupara as containment areas so as to restrict unregulated entry and exit movement on site. The order states that no person, public are allowed to move into the containment area and inhabitants within the containment area shall not move out, besides all inhabitants within the containment area shall strictly remain inside their home. Gatherings, events, functions whatsoever of any nature and forms including social, political, religious, economic activities are not allowed. All shopping establishments shall be closed immediately and supply of essential and medical requirements for purchase will be ensured through various teams formed by the District Administration. All Government and private institutions located within the boundary of the containment area are to close forthwith, till further orders. According to the order, the Incident Commander, Zone-III, will be the Supervising Officer of Matri Nawas Building at Jail Road while the Incident Commander, Zone-IV, will be the Supervising Officer of the houses of Raj Jaiswal and Nabin Chettri in Gopalji Compound at Jhalupara and the houses of Vishnu Chettri and Dinesh Thapa in Maya Compound at Jhalupara which are declared as containment areas.. The order, however, will not apply to health workers and essential workers of Shillong Municipal Board, press including electronic and print media, petrol pumps and LPG delivery workforce. The order also states that any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and IPC.

CONTAINMENT ORDER LIFTED

Based on the contact tracing status and testing of the high risk contacts in the building of Smti Adentis Lyngdoh, Lawsohtun Block IV (Main Road), and the reports received thereof, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District in an order issued on 31st August, 2020 has lifted the containment order for the building of Smti Adentis Lyngdoh, Lawsohtun Block IV (Main Road) with immediate effect.
