ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM FOR DISABLED PERSONS HELD

The 4th Session of the Inc-Preneurship, an entrepreneurship program curated specially for persons with disability was held at Prime Hub Tura on 1st September, 2022. The program was also conducted in East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi and Jowai. The program was organised by Barefoot Trust, Shillong in collaboration with Prime Hub Meghalaya with an aim to build entrepreneurial ecosystem for persons with disability in Meghalaya and will begin the initiative with a series of district level grassroot interactions with persons with disability through active engagement with them to develop an understanding of their existing situation and the various ideas of entrepreneurship that they envisaged. It may be mentioned that the Barefoot Trust is a registered Non Profit Organisation working in disability sector creating an environment for the overall development of stakeholders.

Bibhudutta Sahu, Managing Trustee, Barefoot Trust briefed the participants about the nature of the program stating that it is an interactive program and that the participants should appraised them about their challenges as well as their desire to work in the field of interest. Stating that there is no short cut to any business or work, he said that the road to business and entrepreneurship is not easy and takes time to grow and expand.

Sweet C Syiemiong, Program Co ordinator, Barefoot Trust cited the critical gaps most common in the area such as mindset block wherein they have been dependent on their immediate environment for support, no effort to identify the potential of persons with disability beyond the academic purview, suppression of creative ideas, lack of information and lack of supportive eco-system including mentoring, business skills, market identification, etc.

Further, mentioning that the objectives is to identify the potential, challenges and support for entrepreneurship initiatives for persons with disabilities based on analysis she said that the detailed proposal including strategic support for the persons with disabilities would be prepared and submitted thereafter.

POSHAN MAAH LAUNCHED IN WEST GARO HILLS

The District Program Officer, West Garo Hills, in convergence with the line departments, launched the Poshan Maah, 2022, with the theme, Triggering Poshan Panchayats for Poshan Maah at a function held at Upper Matchakolgre, Tura, on 1 September, where a large number of parents, Anganwadi Workers and others participated.

The Chief Guest of the day, Dr. Priya Sengse Sangma, while talking at length nutrition, urged the mothers to select nutritious foods and the vegetables rich in vitamins to stay away from vitamin deficiency diseases. The District Program Officer, ICDS Cell, Chonseng D Arengh, while speaking about Rashtriya Poshan Maah, sought the cooperation of the parents and community leaders to improve the Anganwadi Centers.

The CDPO, Urban, VD Sangma, while delivering the welcome address, highlighted the aims and objectives of Poshan Maah and Poshan Abhiyan. The other highlights of the day included cooking demonstration of fortified food items and growth monitoring of children and pregnant mothers.

BSF HOLDS BIKE RALLY FROM SHILLONG TO NEW DELHI

To mark the 75th anniversary of our country Independence, the Border Security Force organized a Motorcycle Rally from Shillong to New Delhi flagged off from 1st September from Shillong Sector BSF HQ. In their enroute to Guahati halted at Nongpoh and a short programme was conducted at NSCA Indoor Stadium Nongpoh in amidst welcoming by officers from the Force, NCC Cadre and school children of the Nongpoh area.

The programme were also attended by Commandant Shri J.S Berwal who graced the occasion as the chief guest in the august presence of Shri Sanjay Sharma Commandant, Shri Suresh Singh 2IC, Shri A.D Pandey Deputy Commandant, Shri M.B Tongper MCS Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Shri Giri Prasad IPS Superintendent of Police and others. Shri Sanjay Sharma Commandant, in his Keynote address informed that a total of 30 motorcyclists have been taking part in the Rally including 15 from the Jaanbaaz motorcyclists team and 15 from the motorcyclists Sheema Bhawani team.

Shri J.S Berwal Commandant while speaking at the gathering as the chief guest, he expressed his sincere thank to all the official concern for their coordination and arrangement in making this event a success. He informed that Bike Rally is one of the events organized by the BSF as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav the 75th anniversary of Independence, this bike rally event have been started from Shillong Sector HQ BSF today the 1st September and ends its 16 days of journey to New Delhi on the 16th September 2022. The main aim of this event is to create awareness on national integration despite differences in cultures, customs, traditions and religions.

Moreover, said that the participants will also interact with school children, NCC Cadre, youths in several locations enroute. He stated that the aim of the BSF is to bring youths to the main stream of safeguarding the nation and also to create awareness about the recruitment policy and selection processing. besides showcasing of various events like displayed of short film on BSF to highlight the role and task of the BSF as part of encouragement to the youths of the country to join the BSF for safeguarding the country’s territory, awareness on drugs abuse, smuggling, prevention from crimes and other social evils which have been increasing day by day in the society and he assures that such beneficial programme would be able to organized by the BSF in the future also to enable to connect with the people for a strong nation.

DEPUTY CM DISTRIBUTES PIGLETS AT TYNRING

As part of the Prosperity of Grassroot Families through Livestock Interventions the Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Prestone Tynsong today distributed piglets to beneficiaries under the Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme of the National Livestock Mission at a programme held at Tynring, East Khasi Hills District.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Prestone Tynsong lauded the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department for coming up with this initiative which will benefit the poorest of the poor and also boost their livelihoods. He informed that under this initiative 3 female piglets and one male piglet will be given free of cost for breeding purposes to 500 beneficiaries under Mawryngkneng constituency. While informing that in case the pig dies within a period of one month after receiving, Shri Tynsong said that the government will replace the same with a new piglet, he urged upon the beneficiaries to take proper care of the piglets and to consult the doctors periodically so as to avoid such incidents.

Stating that the demand for pork in the state in high, he said that 18,000 metric tonnes is consumed by the people in the state annually and more than 10,000 metric tonnes have to be imported from outside the state, the main aim of this initiative is to bridge the gap between demand and supply within Meghalaya, he informed.

POSHAN MAAH LAUNCHED IN BAGHMARA

Together with the rest of the states, launching programme of the 5th Rashtriya Poshan Maah takes place today at Multi Facility Centre DC Office Baghmara, South Garo Hills District.

Speaking at the District level launching programme, the Deputy Commissioner of South Garo Hills District Shri F.M.Dopth reiterated the importance of nutrition with special focus on pregnant Mother's, lactating mothers, children below 6 years and adolescent girls. He also stated that it is a month long event which will witness intensive activities across the District for awareness about the nutrition at the ground level through various outreach programme and events like Health camps and checkups will also be organised. He also urged upon the various line Departments to work in a convergence mode in making this programme a successful one in our District. He added.

The month long programme will include identifying of land for nutri gardens, Poshan Vatika near Anganwadi Centres. The main focus is to activate the sarpanch or the Nokmas at the village level as the fulcrum of all activities thus converting the celebration into Jan Andolan.

CM DISTRIBUTES FOCUS PLUS FAMILY BENEFIT TO MORE THAN 1200 BENEFICIARY HOUSEHOLDS

Commemorating the 75th birth anniversary of Late Speaker of Lok sabha P.A. Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya Shri Conrad Sangma clicked to direct benefit transferred to more than 1200 households under newly launched FOCUS PLUS scheme, which aims to provide benefit to every farming household of the state. The Government of Meghalaya on this memorable day disbursed funds amounting to Rs. 32.30 Lakhs under FOCUS Farmer’s Welfare Programme and Rs. 12.69 Lakhs under of FOCUS PLUS Benefit Scheme benefitting close to two thousand farmers.

In addition, funds totaling Rs. 11.60 Lakhs were distributed to 23 Groups under the YESS Meghalaya Youth Empowerment Programme. YESS is a scheme launched to nurture the youth by empowering of youth organisations working towards social welfare and sports. Under the Rural Backyard Piggery Scheme, PROGRESS, 76 piglets were distributed to Pig Rearers based out of East Garo Hills District. PROGRESS will benefit 10000 farmers and will improve economic conditions of farming households of Meghalaya.

The above events were part of the Foundation Stone Inauguration event for the Williamnagar Urban Water Supply Project Phase I under AMRUT 2.0. The event witnessed participation of 5000 citizens of EGH and the occasion was graced by Shri Kaushal Kishore, Minister of State for Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.

Speaking on this occasion, Chief Minister said, In these 4.5 years from being one of the worst states we have become one of the best performing states in several sectors. Our progress has been recognized at national and international level few examples like awards in Tourism, Water Supply, UN Award for IT initiatives and many more. However, momentum needs to be continued and more needs to be done to be amongst the top 10 states in 10 years. No other day, but the Birth Anniversary of Late Shri PA Sangma could not have been more apt for inaugurating the mega Williamnagar Urban Water Supply Project sanctioned at an Estimated Cost of Rs. 121 Crores under AMRUT 2.0 with Central assistance. The project has capacity to serve 1.42 lakhs people which is the projected population of Williamnagar in 10 years. He further said, to ensure farmers and youths prosperity, we have started direct benefit transfer under FOCUS PLUS, YESS Meghalaya Programmes respectively. I urge all eligible citizens to enroll and take benefits of the various schemes of MDA Government.
