SEMINAR ON FUNDAMENTALS OF VALUATION OF ASSETS HELD AT IGNOU

Shillong, 12th September 2012: A seminar on Fundamentals of Valuation of Assets-Its Academics, Professions and Practices was held today the 12th September, 2012 at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at Belle Vue Building, Shillong. The seminar was organised by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in collaboration with the Institution of Estate Managers & Appraisers (I. Esma), Kolkata. Dignitaries and guests who attended the Seminar included Dr. A. S Guha, Officer on Special Duty, IIVET, Shri. Amitabha De, Vice President, I. Esma, Shri. Basudev Dey, Chief Executive, I. Esma, Kolkata, learners and many others.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Dr. A. S. Guha stated that IGNOU has been catering vocational needs in manifold ways for the Northeastern region for the last 3 years and focuses on skill development. Referring to the drop outs, street children, differently abled children, he lauded the State Government for sponsoring and funding such programmes. He further stated that, “IGNOU IGNOU Institute for Vocational Education & Training (IIVET) has joined hands with the I.Esma, Kolkata to help launch the Post Graduation Degree Course in Valuation of Real Estate. He further stated such seminars are a platform where non professionals and professionals get to interact and share views and ideas.”

Addressing the seminar, Shri. Amitabha De, highlighted the importance of the seminars for valuers, appraisers, bankers, persons from financial institutions, govt. authority, common investors and the last learners-the budding valuers. He further highlighted the fundamental and importance of assets valuation, and the employment opportunities both in private as well as Government organizations through such courses. To name a few, Bank Mortgage, for company’s financial statements, for insurance purpose, Auction purpose, to determine the market value under international Financial Reporting System, and many more.

This is a second seminar of its kind, the first was conducted in Kolkata and it witnessed a large response from learners and even professionals.

Other highlights of the Seminar is the technical session where Shri Basudev Dey, who is also the Chief Executive, Academic Council, I. Esma spoke vastly on the theme topic which was followed by an interactive session.

Giving a gist about I.Esma, which is also known as the first professional Institution of its type in the Country in the field of valuation of Real Estate, provides assistance and guide general people, Govt. and semi-Govt bodies in all types of valuation. The institute imparts encourage and arrange training, workshops and seminars on appraisal or properties, particularly real asset. The institute is condicting a two years Post Graduate Course in Valuation in Real Estate leading to M.Sc degree in valuation of Real Estate. This course is being conducted in collaboration with IGNOU Institute of Vocational Education and Training (IIVET), Shillong.

NOTIFICATION

Shillong, September 12, 2012: Meghalaya Power Generation Corporation Limited Office of the Director, has informed that the water level of the Umiam Reservoir Stands at 3211.32 at 8 am as on 11.9.12. It is apprehended that in case of heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the Umiam dam, the reservoir may become full which will necessitate the opening of the gates of the Umiam dam to allow the flood to pass through. All persons residing or working in the downstream of the Umiam reservoir are cautioned against engaging in any activity near the banks of the river Umiam, since the level of water in the river may suddenly rise due to opening of gates in the dam.

All efforts will be made to regulate the discharge of water through the dam to the minimum.

Shillong, September 12, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District has informed that all The State Government, Office, Revenue and Magisterial Courts, Educational Institution within Ri Bhoi District will remain closed on Tuesday the 18th September, 2012 on account of “Unitarian Anniversary Day”.
