FIXATION OF FARE AND REMUNERATIVE PRICE OF SUGARCANE

Shillong, September 26, 2012: The Government of India has determined that fare and remunerative price of sugarcane payable by Sugar Mills for 2012-13 sugar season is fixed at Rs. 170/- per quintal linked to a basic recovery rate of 9.5 percent subject to a premium of Rs. 1.79/- per quintal for every 0.1 percentage point increase in recovery above that level. This was informed by the Under Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Agriculture Department.

SALENG SANGMA LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL AND MODEL SCHOOL

Shillong, September 26, 2012: The foundation stone for the first residential school in Meghalaya was laid here today at Gambegre by the Minister, C & RD and PWD (B), Saleng A Sangma. Funded by the Planning Commission, with a view to provide quality education to all without any discrimination, the government envisaged setting up of residential schools in 20 blocks of the State. Later, the Minister also laid the foundation stone for a model school at Kherapara Nokat, under Gambegre block. Such model schools will be set up in nine blocks around the State.

Speaking at both the occasions, the Minister said that the residential and the model school are an opportunity to the weaker sections of the area to fulfill their educational aspirations. Stressing on the importance of education he said that it is the best weapon to fight the ills plaguing the society. He urged the people of the area to overcome poverty through education.

Expressing dismay over the poor pass percentage of students at the board examinations, he said that the cause behind it could not be attributed to one factor, therefore it needed collective efforts of the teachers, students, government and parents to address the problem. He urged the parents as well as the youth to derive maximum benefit from these schools saying that it was a positive step towards improving the educational status of the district.

Among others who spoke at the functions were, C.W. Momin, Additional Director, School of Education & Literacy, J.D. Sangma, Director, School of Education & Literacy and A.C. Marak, Additional District Magistrate, West Garo Hills, Tura. A large number of students, district officers and general public attended the function.

GRIEVANCES REDRESSAL MECHANISM CELL (MDM) CONSTITUTED

Shillong, September 26, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has informed all Managing Committee of Primary/Upper Primary/SSA Schools and the public at large that any problem/issues/grievances related to the implementation of the Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDM) in the District may be brought to the notice of the Grievances Redressal Mechanism Cell constituted under the strict monitoring and supervision of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.

DRY DAY DECLARED

Shillong, September 26, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District has declared Dry Day on October 2, 2012 in the entire District on account of Gandhi Birth Anniversary.

All IMFL shops/bars/hotels/clubs/outstill shops and bonded warehouses shall remain close on the above mentioned date.
