REGIONAL LEVEL CONSULTATION ON COMBATING HUMAN TRAFFICKING IN NER HELD

The National Commission for Women in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Women Commission today held a Regional Level Consultation on Combating Human Trafficking in NER at North Eastern Council Auditorium, Shillong. The objective of the Consultation is to improve the effectiveness in tackling cases of human trafficking, raising awareness among women and girls, capacity building and training of Anti Trafficking Units and to strengthen & sensitize law enforcement machineries.

In her address Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, National Commission for Women appreciated the scenario of women in the North East and their dominance in every field. Sharma stresses on devising newer methods of prevention, protection and prosecution of human trafficking of women in North East Region since the region shares international borders with countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, and Myanmar which has invariably becomes a transit point. In view of tackling cases of human trafficking, Sharma said that the NCW along with States Commission can play a greater role in creating job opportunities, sensitization for girls in schools and colleges and holds periodic meeting with the stakeholders to review the challenges.

MEGHALAYA BAGS COVETED AYUSHMAN UTKRISHTATA PURASKAAR 2022 AWARD IN 2 CATEGORIES FROM NHA, GOI

The Meghalaya Government’s commitment towards improving the healthcare infrastructure received a major boost recently, when the state bagged the coveted Ayushman Utkrishtata Puraskaar 2022 Ayushman Excellence Awards in two categories, from the National Health Authority at a function held in New Delhi recently.

The state bagged the Top Performing State or UT Accolade category award, for achieving the feat of Maximum Saturation in the Population of Doctors and Nurses in Healthcare Professional Registry, and the Best Performing State Small category award, for achieving the feat of Highest Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, AB PMJAY scheme utilization 2021 to 2022, during a ceremony held in the national capital.

In his tweet, the Chief Minister congratulated the entire Team Meghalaya for bringing home the great honors. He complemented the state Health Department for their efforts and said that credit must be given to officials and people working at the grassroots level. During a recent public address, CM Sangma stated that the state Government is according foremost priority to the health sector and is committed in ensuring effective delivery of healthcare services to the people. The two awards therefore are a wonderful ratification of this ardent commitment towards improving the healthcare infrastructure in the state.

The recognitions were presented by the honorable Union Health Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya on the closing day of the two day Arogya Manthan 2022, celebrating completion of four years of Ayushman Bharat PMJAY, and one year of Ayushman Bharat Digital Health Mission.

Ayushman Bharat PMJAY is a national public health insurance fund of the Central Government that aims to provide free access to health insurance coverage for low-income earners in the country and providing a cover of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for medical treatment in empaneled hospitals, both public and private. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission aims to develop the backbone necessary to support the integrated digital health infrastructure of the country. It will bridge the existing gap amongst different stakeholders of the Healthcare ecosystem through digital highways.
