MOS ARJUN RAM MEGHWAL PARTICIPATES IN THE VALEDICTORY FUNCTION OF THE ROOTS OF IDENTITY IN MEGHALAYA

Union Minister of State for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal today addressed the valedictory function of the Ka Tynrai Jong Ka Longrynieng or The Roots of Identity event held at U Soso Tham auditorium in Shillong, Meghalaya and recalled the contribution of the Freedom Fighters of the State to India’s freedom movement.

Tirot Singh is a very big name. All of us should know about him, he stated and recalled his contribution to independence struggle of the country. The Minister remembered warriors U Kiang Nangbah and Pa Togan Sangma who contributed immensely and informed that the government’s focus is to educate the youths on the many unsung heroes of Azadi. Shri Meghwal, while addressing the valedictory function, engaged with the audience and highlighted the idea behind Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which is making India self sufficient, i.e. Aatmanirbhar. He lauded the efforts of the Shillong Law College and Positive Energy Art Foundation for organising the cultural program to promote art and culture of State as well as Northeast. He further encouraged the youths to continue celebrating Har Ghar Tiranga in the coming years. Shri Meghwal shared a lighter moment at the program when he engaged with the audience while singing his own composition of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.

East Khasi Hills MLA, Smt. Ampareen Lyngdoh, who also attended the event alongside dignitaries, urged the government to recognize the indigenous languages of the State, the Khasi, Garo and Jaintia. During her address at the program, she expressed delight in the government’s initiative to educate the youth on unsung heroes. She expressed her belief that Meghalaya, together with the nation, will ensure that India becomes Aatmanirbhar.

The Union Minister of State Shri Meghwal also distributed prizes among the winners of academic competitions held during the festival. The prize distribution was followed by a cultural program wherein folk dances of the Northeast States were presented.
