COMMITTEE TO RE-EXAMINE THE SOP FOR OPENING OF RELIGIOUS PLACES CONSTITUTED

The Government of Meghalaya has constituted a Committee to re-examine the SOP for opening of religious places with Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri M. S. Rao as Chairman, Secretary, Home (Political) Department, Shri C. V. D. Diengdoh as Member Secretary and Members comprising of DHS (MI), Dr. Aman Warr, President, Shillong All Faiths Forum, Most Rev. Dr. P. Lyngdoh, Vice-President, Shillong All Faiths Forum, Fr. John Madur, Secretary, Shillong All Faiths Forum, Rev. E. H. Kharkongor and Joint Secretary, Shillong All Faiths Forum, Shri Naba Bhattacharjee. This was informed by the Joint Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Home (Political) Department.

ORDERS FOR CONTAINMENT

Due to the detection of positive COVID-19 cases/high risk contacts which require contact tracing, testing and isolation to be effected in the interest of the health of the general public to prevent against any possible spread of COVID-19, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, in orders issued on 9th September, 2020 has declared the area from gate 1 upto Boy’s Hostel, Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Mawdiangdiang and the compound of Mr. S. G. Estamur, Satbas Cottage at Nongrimmaw Block-B as micro-containment areas with immediate effect. The orders states that no persons are allowed to move into the containment areas and inhabitants within these areas shall not move out, besides all inhabitants within the containment areas shall strictly remain inside their homes. Respective Incident Commanders of these areas shall supervise and monitor strict compliance of the orders. Any violation of the orders will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and IPC.

CONTAINMENT ORDERS LIFTED

Based on the contact tracing status and testing of the high risk contacts and the reports received thereof, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District in orders issued on 9th September, 2020 has lifted the containment orders for the house of Gulam Mustafa (behind Rock Wood compound), M.G. Road Shillong and the compound of Swapan Deb and Smti Ruma Deb at Upper Jail Road (near Puja Mandap) with immediate effect.

ORDER FOR CONTAINMENT

Due to the detection of positive COVID-19 cases/high risk contacts which requires contact tracing, testing and isolation to be effected in the interest of the health of the general public to prevent against any possible spread of COVID-19, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, in an order issued on 9th September, 2020 has declared the compound of Birma Jalan, C/o Ganesh Store, opposite Income Tax Quarter, Keating Road as a micro-containment area so as to restrict unregulated entry and exit on the site. The order states that no persons are allowed to move into the containment area and inhabitants within the area shall not move out, besides all inhabitants within the containment area shall strictly remain inside their homes. The Incident Commander, Zone-III, Shillong shall supervise and monitor strict compliance of the order. Any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of Disaster Management Act, 2005 and IPC.

CHIEF MINISTER MEETS UNION MINISTERS IN NEW DELHI

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Prestone Tynsong today met Union Finance Minister, Smt Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and submitted memorandum requesting the Ministry of Finance to incentivise national banks and prioritize the setting up of new bank branches in rural areas to increase the reach of banking system in the State. The Chief Minister also submitted a memorandum requesting the Government of India to increase Meghalaya’s share of central taxes. The Union Minister was also apprised on the overall financial position of Meghalaya.

After meeting the Union Finance Minister, the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister also met Union Minister of State for Finance, Shri Anurag Thakur and discussed on way forward for initiating externally funded World Bank & New Development Bank projects in the state. He was also apprised of the 3 externally aided projects that focus on Health, Tourism & Road Infrastructure development in the State.

The Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister also met Union Minister for Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairying, Shri Giriraj Singh and discussed prospects and interventions to be taken up in the State to promote cattle breeding, piggery and fisheries for economic growth and sustainable development. The duo also called on Minister of State Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Shri Arjun M Meghwal and discussed various issues related to the introduction of electric vehicles, particularly for short distance public transport.

Later in the day, Chief Minister met Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi as part of his visit to the capital today. In the meeting, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the Union Minister and the Ministry for funding the construction of P. A. Sangma Stadium in Tura. The Chief Minister intimated him about the progress of the project and stated that the tendering process has started and the construction work of the stadium will commence in a month and a half. In the meeting, they discussed the proposal for setting up of a Training Centre for Paramedical Staff in Meghalaya, which will be a hub and a skill institute that will cater to the entire North East. “Considering the situation of Covid-19 today and the need for skilled manpower, the institute will add value to our healthcare system in the region”, the Chief Minister said. Apart from the Institute, the Chief Minister also discussed and requested for an auditorium to be set up in Tura The Chief Minister informed that the meeting ended in a positive note with the Union Minister assuring to look into both the matters.
