Press Release No. 08/10 MAGH BIHU CELEBRATED AT SHELLA Shillong, January 18, 2010: Magh Bihu was celebrated on January 17, 2010 at Nayabasti, Shella Bholaganj wherein the Governor of Meghalaya, Mr. Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests present during the celebration included Dr. Donkupar Roy, MLA, Shella, Dr. B D R Tiwari, SDO (Civil), Sohra Sub Division and Mr. Elias Majaw, Sordar Shella besides the citizens of the area. Speaking on the occasion, Shri R S Mooshahary said that inspite of the diverse cultures and languages, the area sets an example of integrity, peace and harmony where the multi-cultural congregation of people is something that we should be proud of. He therefore, called upon every individual to preserve our cultural and traditional identity He however, lamented over the sad plight of farmers and called upon the Border Security Force (BSF) to ensure that farmers are given enough protection so that there would be no hindrance to farming. He also assured that he would try to convince the government to compensate for those areas taken for fencing. Other highlights of the day included cultural programme, distribution of sweaters and blankets, and a concert by BSF and Brass Band from Shillong. |
