Press Release No. 51/13 64TH REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATED IN THE STATE CAPITAL Shillong, January 26, 2013: Along with the rest of the country, Meghalaya too celebrated its 64th Republic Day with pomp and gaiety in all its District Headquarters, Civil Sub-Divisions and Administrative Units of the State. In the State capital, Shillong, the Governor of Meghalaya, Mr. R. S Mooshahary unfurled the National Flag at Polo Grounds and took the salute at an impressive march past of nine contingents which included State Police, Assam Regiment, BSF, CRPF, Home Guards, NCC boys and girls, Scouts and Guides. During the celebration, the Governor distributed the Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service to Prison Personnel Shri Newland Thabah, Head Warder and Raj Kishor Singh, Warder. Meritorious Service Medal winners were also announced which were bagged by Shri Alkat Liting, Subedar of Border Wing Home Guards and Shri Fredarick Mawrie, Guardsman, Central Trainning Institute and the Police Medal for Meritorious were bagged by UB. Sub Inspector Shri Forward Syrti, Havilder Prodenson Sangma and Bn. Constable Timenson K. Marak of the 1st MLP Bn. Tableaux by 15 government departments and NGOs were also presented on the occasion wherein the first prize was bagged by Election Department, the second and third place went to District Commerce and Industries Centre, Shillong and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) respectively, while the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department received the consolation prize. Other highlights of the day include song and cultural programmes presented by Assam Regiment Centre, Arts and Culture department, Snap Paka and others. |
