REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATED ACROSS THE STATE

Shillong, January 27, 2015: Together with the rest of the country, 66th Republic Day was celebrated in all the District Headquarters, Sub-Divisions and Administrative Units with great fanfare and grandeur.

At Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker, Mr. A T Mondal unfurled the Tricolor and took the salute of the 13 marching contingents comprising of Police, band from Umroi Cantonment and school students at the NSCA Mini Stadium, Pahamsyiem. The day long programme included songs and cultural dances performed by the students and prize distribution to the winners of marchpast and cultural programme. At Resubelpara, North Garo Hills District, Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. Rowell Lyngdoh, unfurled the Tri Color and took the Rashtriya salute of the 10 parade contingents comprising of the police and students in a befitting function held at Resubelpara Mini Stadium. Dilma Secondary School Scouts and Guides, Dilma Girls’ Secondary School and Resubelpara Govt. UP School were adjudged the first, second and the third best contingents while Sub-Divisional School Education Officer was awarded with certificate for the best tableau presentation. Other highlights of the day were the cultural program, children’s sports, tug of war, friendly cricket match between Service XI and Public XI. At Ampati, South West Garo Hills, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Zenith M Sangma unfurled the Tricolor and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 11 marching contingents including the State Police, Scouts and Guides and school children. During the day long celebration, the Chief Guest gave away the State Level and District Level Incentive Awards to two Anganwadi workers in recognition of their outstanding work in their field. Highlights of the day included a cultural programme by schools and NGOs including Mother’s Union.

At Williamnagar, East Garo Hills District, Mr. Cherak W Momin, Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of PWD (R), unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 18 marching contingents comprising of 4th MLP Battalion, Scouts and Guides and school students at Rongrenggre Higher Secondary School playground, Williamnagar.On the day, tableaus also were presented by different government departments to showcase their achievements in their respective fields. Among the marching parade contingents, Jawahar Navodaya Vidiyalaya (JNV), Williamnagar, bagged the first prize. At Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills District, Shri. Prestone Tynsong, Minister I/c Border Area, C & RD, Forest and Environment was the Chief Guest unfurled the National Flag and took the rashtriya salute of the 13 parade contingents comprising of the police, NCC and school children at an impressive function held at New Nongstoin playground. Other highlights of the day included the cultural programmes, cricket match for men officers vrs Teachers, prize distribution. Distribution of eatables to patients of Civil Hospital, T.B. Hospital, S.Wallington Children’s Home, Nongpyndeng etc. At Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District, Republic Day was celebrated in a befitting manner at the Maharam Higher Secondary School Playground where the Meghalaya Minister Cooperative, etc Mr. H.D.R. Lyngdoh unfurled the Tricolor and took the salute of the 15 parade contingents comprising of police force, NCC and school students. Other highlights of the day included presentation of tableau, cultural programmes, sports and games for children, Football exhibition match and prize distribution.

At Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District, the Meghalaya Minister for PWD, Mr. S Dhar unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the 6 marchpast contingents of police and students. Presentation of tableau and cultural programmes performed by school students and sports for small children were the other highlights of the Republic Day celebration. Later, prizes were distributed by the Chief Guest where Khliehriat Higher Secondary School bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prizes in the Cultural Program while the Department of Soil & Water Conservation, the Office of the District Health and Medical Officer and Agriculture and Labour Departments were awarded with certificate for their best tableau while Holy Family High School, Khliehriat was adjudged the best parade contingent. At Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District, Urban Affairs Minister, Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of 21 marching contingents comprising of State police, Home Guards, NCC and Guides, school and college students at Jrisalein Playground. Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the march past where KJP Synod Higher Secondary School, North Liberty Higher Secondary School and Q.C Springside Secondary School, Jowai were adjudged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winner respectively. In the tableau presentation, the 1st prize was bagged by Executive Engineer Water Resources Department while the 2nd and 3rd prize went to Soil & Water Conservation Territorial & Cash Crop Department and District Jail, Jowai respectively. The West Jaintia Hills District Administration in collaboration with Meghalaya Awareness Society for Communication (MASCOM), Jowai also organized a Concert –Rock for Peace, Food Fest, Bike stunts and various others items at Iawmusiang Jowai MTC Stand.

At Baghmara, South Garo Hills District, the Minister of AH & Veterinary department, Social Welfare etc Smti Deborah C Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the six marching contingents from the District Police Force and school children at Government Higher Secondary School premises, Baghmara. The presentation of tableau by various departments of the District, cultural performances involving dance and songs from the different school students of Baghmara and the members of NGO’s of Baghmara were the highlights of the programme. Other programmes included sports for children and the exhibition football match between the District Officers and the citizens of Baghmara, inauguration of Mobile Multi Facility Van and distribution of PC Tablets to class XII students. The Chief Guest also gave away the award to Shri Zevian Evansky R Marak for his outstanding performance in the 60th National Taekwondo Championship.

At Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, the Meghalaya Minister for Power, etc, Mr. Clement Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the rashtriya salute of the 7 marching contingents comprising of the police and students. Thereafter, the locals were enthralled to a wonderful cultural programme. The evening schedule included sports for children. At Mairang Civil Sub-Division, the Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Kennedy Khyriem unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the 10 marching contingents comprising of the Police, NCC and school students at the KSA playground. Other programme of the day includes the display of Tableaus of the different departments, cultural items, prize distribution and distribution of gifts to the disabled persons. At Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, the Meghalaya Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Stephanson Mukhim unfurled the Tricolor and took the salute of the 4 parade contingents comprising of the police and school students at an impressive function held at Amlarem LP School playground. The highlights of the day were the prize distribution to meritorious students, award for clean and green village to Kudengthymmai and Shnongpdeng and distribution of prizes to the best parade contingents, cultural programme and songs rendered by school students. At Sohra Civil Sub-Division, the Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr. D D Lapang unfurled the National Flag and took the rashtriya salute of the marching contingents comprising of the police, NCC and school students in a ceremonial gathering held at Sohra Football Stadium Saitsohpen. Highlights of the celebration included cultural programme, sports and games for children, distribution of gift packages to patients of NRM Hospital and St. John Orphanage, Maraikaphon. In the March Past, Sohra Academy, Maraikaphon, Sohra bagged the 1st Prize followed by St. John Bosco Boys and Ram Krishna S.School, Mawmluh, in the 2nd and 3rdplace. In the cultural programme, Sohra Academy bagged the 1st Prize followed by Ram Krishna H.S.School and St. John Bosco Girls, Sohra in the 2nd and 3rd place.

At Patharkhmah Administrative Unit, the Republic Day celebration was graced by the Parliamentary Secretary, Dr. C.Lyngdoh as the Chief Guest where he unfurled the National flag and took the salute of the marching contingents of police and school students. Other highlights of the day included cultural programme by the school children and the local residents and ended with the prize distribution. At Mawshynrut Administrative Unit, Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Sengnam Marak unfurled the Tricolor and took the salute of the parade contingents of police and school students at Riangdo Sports Complex. Programmes of the day included cultural items, prize distribution and distribution of gifts to the disabled persons by the Chief Guest.
