Press Release No. 64/18 LAUNCHING OF THE INTENSIFIED PULSE POLIO IMMUNIZATION PROGRAMME (IPPI) 2018 The Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme (IPPI) 2018 was launched today at the Dorbar Hall, Jongksha Village, East Khasi Hills District wherein the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shri P. S. Dkhar was the Chief Guest. The programme was organised by the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong. While addressing the gathering the Chief Guest put forth the reason why organizing such programme is crucial to the health and well-being of a child. He points out that the main objective of the programme is to educate the public about the importance of immunizing their children which will help in eradicating the deadly polio virus from this State. “This programme is not for us but for our children who are the future generation and the greatest gift that we can give to them is their Health and we should give them what is rightfully theirs”, he added. He hoped that with the success of this programme more villages will accept, turn up and take the initiative of immunizing their children against the deadly poliomyelitis disease. Earlier, District MCH Officer, East Khasi Hills, Dr. (Mrs) J. B. Ranee informed the gathering that even though the World Health Organisation (WHO) had officially declared India as a polio free country in the year 2014, it is imperative that the State gears up for a preventive mechanism against this deadly disease. The Programme was also attended by the Block Development Officer, Shri L. T. Tariang, Medical and Health Officer, I/c Jongksha PHC, Dr. A Nongbri and local Actor, Shri Melvin Mukhim. |
