Press Release No. 72/18 DISTRICT LEVEL MEDIA CERTIFICATION AND MONITORING COMMITTEE CONSTITUTED To ensure free and fair conduct of the upcoming Legislative Assembly Election 2018 in East Jaintia Hills District, the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) is constituted with the District Election Officer as Chairman. The members of the Committee include Additional Deputy Commissioners, Extra Assistant Commissioners, representative of the Central Government I & B Ministry Official in the District, Independent Citizen/Journalist as may be recommended by District Election Officer and District Information and Public Relations Officer, Khliehriat as Member Secretary. The term of reference of the Committee is to preview, scrutinize and verify all advertisements by individual contesting candidates or political parties before inserted in the electronic media, certification of advertisements, examine complaints/issues of paid news etc. scan all media for suspected cases of paid news, monitoring of political advertisements in electronic media, monitoring of political advertisement in other media in relation to candidates either overt or covert from expenditure monitoring angle, advertisement in print media, checking if the name and address of the publisher and the printer is carried on any election pamphlets, poster, hand bill and other document as required under Section 127 A of the RPA Act 1951. |
Press Release No. 74/18 24 X 7 CALL CENTRE In pursuance to the Part B of the Structure of Election Expenditure and Monitoring of its various organs, contained in the Compendium of Instructions on Election Expenditure Monitoring (October 2017, Document 3, edition 6) of the Election Commission of India at para 6, the District Election Officer, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat has informed that a 24x7 Call Centre has been established at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Khliehriat, Room No. 30 for the public to inform the election monitoring machinery regarding corrupt practices related to the election, complaints/queries being received from various stake-holders about the Model Code of Conduct and various other Electoral issues in connection with the ensuing General Election to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly 2018, with effect from 18th January 2018 up to 5th March 2018 and free operation of Model Code of Conduct. Any complaints and queries may be made through the Control Room and the Border Area Development Officer, East Jaintia Hills District is appointed as Nodal Officer and a telephone No. 03652-230783, 230788 is assigned to the Call Centre. |
Press Release No. 76/18 GOVERNOR VISITS WEST KHASI HILLS DISTRICT The Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Ganga Prasad paid a visit to Nongstoin, the District Headquarters of West Khasi Hills District on 31st January, 2018. During his interaction with the district officials at Nongstoin Circuit House, the Governor said that government officials, being the machineries of the Government at the grassroots level, need to dedicate themselves for the upliftment of the people of the District. The Governor during the interaction also expressed his desire to promote agriculture in the State, and pointed out the need for the adoption of 18 days Vermi-Compost as organic manure to boost production and to avoid chemical fertilizer which might have harmful effects on the soil. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioners, Extra-Assistant Commissioners and the District Heads of different Government departments. Power-point presentation was also made by various departments of the schemes and achievements taken up in the District. Earlier, the Governor was received by the West Khasi Hills District Deputy Commissioner, Shri Arunkumar Kembhavi and Superintendent of Police, Shri G. D. Kharwanlang. |
