AIRBORNE GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY

Shillong, January 6, 2011: The Deputy Commissioner of Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has informed that the Heliborne Geophysical Survey will be carried out in Jaintia Hills District on 10.1.2011. A helicopter carrying under slung equipment will be flying at low levels of 60m to 80 m and the villages to be cover under Heliborne Geophysical Surveys in Jaintia Hills District are Nongkhroh, Thadmusem, Mynso, Mokhoneng, Mokabeng, Sung, Larnai, Saphai, Tyrshang, Barato, Maskut, Mookyndur, Mashystoh and Nariang.

MAGISTERIAL ENQUIRY

Shillong, January 6, 2011: On the directives of the National Human Rights Commission in respect of the complaint made be Smti Agnes Kharshiing, President, Civil Society Women’s Organisation (CSWO), the District Magistrate, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has informed that Shri B. Mawlong, MCS, Addl. District Magistrate, Jowai has been appointed to conduct the Magisterial Enquiry into the death of (Late) Fullmoon Dhar and to submit the report within 24th January, 2011. The next kin of the deceased, eye witness having information into the circumstances leading to the encounter or death of the deceased must be associated while conducting such enquiry.

DR MUKUL SANGMA APPEALS FOR PEACE

Shillong, January 6, 2011: Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr Mukul Sangma today appealed to all the people of the State to make efforts in spreading the message of peace and harmony. This he said while referring to the law and order situation prevailing in some parts of the Assam Meghalaya border in East Garo Hills District where thousands of people were displaced due to ethnic clashes between two communities.

Dr Mukul Sangma said that the Government is taking necessary steps in providing relief to the affected people and also in containing the law and order situation. He said that the Government is also making all efforts in restoring normalcy in the area.

Dr Mukul said that all communities should co-exist mutually with a spirit of brotherhood and compassion. “We should no give room to hatred and intolerance in our society”, he added. He also appealed to all political parties, religious leaders and especially the civil societies to join hands in instilling confidence among the people and in contributing towards bringing normalcy in the area.

Meanwhile, Dr Mukul informed that the situation is being monitored continuously and kept under control.
