Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, today, inaugurated the Wahiajer Multi Sports Complex in the presence of Deputy Chief Ministers, Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar and Minister, Sports, Shakliar Warjri.

Giving his inaugural address Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, said that the inaugural of Pa Togan Nengminja Athletics Stadium in Tura in the previous week and the recently concluded Meghalaya Games are testimonies to prove that the government is committed to the youth of the state. Investments in Sports and creation of sports infrastructures have increased in the last few years than the last 45b years, he said. He further highlighted the sustained efforts of the government to continue the building of such infrastructures across the state in the next five years.

He also urged the communities, people and the leaders to lend their support to the success of the next Meghalaya Games that is slated to be held in Jaintia Hills the next year. He also informed that the athletes who have won medals in the Meghalaya Games, Tura will be felicitated soon in Shillong. “These winners will be given financial assistance by the government so that they can pursue their passion and invest in the Sport that they have chosen,” he added.

The Chief Minister also informed that the government intends to intensify activities for the youth be it in Arts, Sports, Entrepreneurship or music. “We will also have competitions In Science, Maths and Innovations to promote and encourage our youth to inculcate scientific temper and be innovative,” he said. He also informed of an Inter Constituency Football Tournament that will be soon announced officially. “All 60 constituencies will be competing and the players will be drawn from the respective constituencies. This will allow different regions to compete, learn formic other and more importantly bring harmony, peace and unity among the people of the State,” he said.

The Inaugural Function was followed by the Final Match of the 3rd Sniawbhalang Football Tournament.

The Wahiajer Football Field and Synthetic Athletic Track Stadium has a capacity for 4300 spectators with spacious parking facilities.

Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, today inaugurated the Wahiajer Prime Hub at Wahiajer. Also present during the inauguration were Deputy Chief Ministers, Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar.

Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, in his address said that having Prime Hubs all over the state is connected with the goal and objective to promote entrepreneurship at the grassroots and to allow people to be able to carry out different economic activities and opportunities for themselves and the communities. Our goal when we started off in 2018 was to see how do we create more value to the different activities that our people are already engaged in and we started off with the broomstick industry and today I am happy to see this Prime Hub that will be manufacturing broomsticks by adding value to the broom grass, he said. He further informed that the state exports about 1000 crores worth of broom grass every year and by adding value the broom sector can be increased to about 2000 crores.

The Chief Minister also informed that every block of the State will have a Prime Hub that will serve as a Rural Technology cum Knowledge Hubs to provide support for small farmers, producer groups and agri-entrepreneurs. He also said that these Rural Prime Hubs will improve incomes through capacity building, market accessibility, credit, technical know-how, processing, packaging and funding support.
