RUN FOR PEACE

Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Ganga Prasad today flagged off the Martyr’s Run for Peace organized by the District Administration at Chandmari Playground, West Garo Hills Tura. It may be mentioned that the Run has been organized to commemorate the 69th Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi the ‘Father of the Nation’. The Run starting from the façade of the Chandmari Playground culminated at Dikki Bandi Stadium, Dakopgre, covering a distance of about 7 kms which witnessed huge participation by both young and old from both the genders braving the cold and chill wintry morning of January. In his brief address before flagging off the run, the Governor paid glowing tribute to the Father of the Nation and reminded the people how through his persistent and sustain yet non-violent struggles and efforts we have achieved independence from the foreign rule. On this solemn occasion, he urged the people, particularly the citizens of Meghalaya to rededicate themselves for peace, prosperity and all round development of the state by following the paths shown the Father of the Nation.

INTENSIFIED PULSE POLIO IMMUNIZATION LAUNCHED

Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Ganga Prasad administered oral Polio drops during the launching of Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) 2018 today at District Maternity and Child Hospital, West Garo Hills Tura. The programme was organized by District Medical and Health Officer, Tura. Speaking on the occasion, Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Ganga Prasad urged all the medical practitioners and para- medical staff to provide more facilities to the under privileged sections of the society especially in rural areas and also to sensitize the people and spread awareness about the significance of immunization against various diseases. The Governor also advised the parents and care takers to give importance to immunization programmes provided by the health department for the safety of their children against diseases. He further added that dedicating their valuable service to improve the health scenario of the people in villages will ensure healthy society and thereby contribute towards the progress and prosperity of the nation in general and region in particular. During the function, prizes were also distributed to the winners of Martyrs Day Run held at Chandmari Playground Tura on 30th morning held in order to commemorate the Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Earlier in the programme, Dr. Ivory A Sangma highlighted on the importance of immunization while presenting the brief status report and aims and objectives of the immunization programme being organized in West Garo Hills District. She also informed that the district has covered about 51.4 percentage of immunization of children on the Booth activity day and hopes to cover cent percent during house-to-house visit for 2 days for missed out children in the district. Others who spoke on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Ram Singh, and District Medical and Health Officer, Dr M R Sangma. Superintendent of Police, Dr. R Kumar, Heads of departments, Officials of District Maternity and Child Hospital, other dignitaries, parents and children were present at the function.
