GREATER BAGHMARA WATER SUPPLY SCHEME INAUGURATED BY CHIEF MINISTER

Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma in presence of MLA, Rongara Siju, Rakkam Sangma, on Monday inaugurated the Greater Baghmara Water Supply Scheme in Baghmara, South Garo Hills.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister expressed happiness that the important need of the people of Baghmara town could be fulfilled by the Government. He also lauded the effort of the officials of the PHE department for the timely completion of the project.

The work for the Greater Baghmara Water Supply scheme was started in March 2021 and the same was completed in December 2022 for an estimated cost of Rs 63.50 Cr. The project is funded under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme and will benefit more than 41,000 population of Baghmara town.

During his visit, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the Housing Middle Income Group Building and the New Circuit House Building at a small function held at Circuit House, Baghmara.

Laying emphasis on the need for quality infrastructure in important towns and Districts, the Chief Minister said that the completed projects will be an asset that will greatly benefit the people of South Garo Hills. Earlier in the day the Chief Minister also inspected the water treatment plant at Lotnagar village, Baghmara.

UNION MINISTER VISITS DAIRY PLANT IN TURA

The Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India, Parshottam Rupala inspected the Dairy Farm at Ganol near Tura on 9th January, 2023.

It may be mentioned that the Union Minister was on his two day visit from 9th to 10th January, 2023 and will be visiting the South West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya where he will chair a review meeting of different flagship schemes of the Central Government tomorrow in the South West Garo Hills district.

The Union Minister inspected the Dairy Plant at Ganol on his way to Ampati and a brief presentation about the ongoing construction of the New Dairy Plant of 10, 000 capacity was presented by the Director, Directorate of Dairy Development, Meghalaya Shillong L S Shangpliang. It may be mentioned that the present Dairy Plant caters to about 8,000 capacity of production of milk including other milk products.

The Union Minister was accompanied by Ram Singh, IAS Private Secretary to the Minister and Malika Pandey, Assistant Private Secretary to the Minister.

The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Swapnil Tembe, District AH and Veterinary Officer, Tura West Garo Hills Dr, Alleana R Marak, Incharge, Superintendent of Fisheries, West Garo Hills, Risha Ch Sangma, Assistant Director, Dairy Development, Tura Wilda Ch Marak, Officials from Directorate of Dairy Development and Dairy Farmers from West Garo Hills region were present at the inspection site.

UNION MINISTER PARSHOTTAM RUPALA ON A TWO DAY VISIT TO SWGH DISTRICT

Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala, who is on a two day visit to South West Garo Hills District reviewed the implementation of Central schemes and flagship programmes of various departments at Circuit House, Ampati on Monday evening.

During the review meeting, the Union Minister laid focus on the status of schemes implemented by AH and Veterinary, Fisheries and Border Areas Development departments in the district as well as issues and challenges faced by these departments particularly in the border areas. It may be noted that South West Garo Hills district shares a total length of 38 km international border with Bangladesh. The Union Minister stated that the purpose of his visit is to listen to the grievances of the farmers and the concerned departments were asked to brief their grievances like problems in flow of funds. The AH and Veterinary department raised their requirements for Veterinary Hospital, livestock farm, mainly piggery farm and animal shelter for animals confiscated by BSF from border cattle smugglers.

Rupala assured the department that he would address the issues raised by them and said that the mobile van units that he would be handing over to the district the next day at Mahendraganj, were specifically meant for rural areas to address the issue of lack of veterinary hospitals in the district.

During his visit, Rupala will be touring across the district to interact with the Self Help Groups, farmers and village organizations. He will be inspecting villages along the international border as well as border fencing. He will also visit Kalaichar Border Haat, Border outposts and inspect Anganwadi centres on his way to Mahendraganj on Tuesday, 10th January, 2023. The Union Minister was accompanied by his Private Secretary, Ram Singh and APS Ms Malika Pandey and state officials during his visit.
