NYKS SHILLONG BEGINS CLEAN INDIA PROGRAMME AS PART OF MONTH LONG NATIONWIDE SWACHH BHARAT CAMPAIGN

The Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has started the Clean India program in Shillong, Meghalaya as part of the month long nationwide Swachh Bharat campaign. Keeping in line with the pan India initiative launched on October 1, the Shillong wing of NYKS started the Clean India Programme in different villages through its Volunteers Youth Club and local bodies of Meghalaya on the day of launching the campaign.

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Shri Anurag Thakur launched the month long campaign on October 1 from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. Shri Thakur had participated in a cleanliness drive on Sangam beach in Prayagraj with Nehru Yuva Kendra, National Service Scheme volunteers and a large number of other people. Swachhta Pledge was also administrated on this occasion. He said that Swachh Bharat 2022 programme was being organised in 6 Lakh villages of 744 districts across the country through the network of NYKS affiliated Youth Clubs and National Service Scheme Affiliated Institutions. This is not just a program but a serious attempt to make people realize the importance of cleanliness, he said while addressing the launch of Clean India 2.0. 25,00,000 kg waste has been collected in ten days since the launch of Swachh Bharat campaign, said the Minister in a tweet. The Department of Youth Affairs has set a target of collecting and disposing of 1 crore kg plastic waste through Swachh Bharat 2022.

NYKS is organizing the Clean India 2.0 Programme from October 1 to 31, 2022 throughout the country. It has collaborated with all stakeholders - District Administration, DRDA, Local Municipal Corporation, NSS, Bharat Scouts and Guides and Youth Clubs, Mahila Mandals, SHGs, Community based Organisations such as Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, Red Cross, Village Authority, etc. working in the districts and villages. In Shillong, the Dongmusa Umphyrnai and Uplifter Clubs organized the Clean India 2.0 programme at Umphyrnai and Demthring Holy Child Old Age home. The activities relating to Swachh Bharat will continue till October 31.

DEPUTY CM LAYS FOUNDATION STONE FOR TYRSAD PHC

Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Prestone Tynsong today laid the foundation stone for the upgradation of Tyrsad Sub Centre to Primary Health Centre at Tyrsad in the presence of Shri Eugeneson Lyngdoh, MLA and Shri L. Blah, MDC.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Tynsong stated that with the upgradation of the sub-centre, people of Tyrsad and its adjoining areas can access better healthcare facilities. The Deputy Chief Minister called upon all stakeholders and the general public to cooperate with the state government in addressing the health issues and to improve the overall health scenario. He also informed that the government is committed in improving the health infrastructure by upgrading the various health centres in the state. He also stated that the government is identifying villages which lack basic health amenities and is in the process of setting up health facilities like sub-centres, PHCs and CHCs for better deliveries of health services in rural areas.
