AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON NHFDC SCHEME

Shillong, October 12, 2012: A one day awareness programme on National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation (NHFDC) Schemes, organized by the office of Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in collaboration with the Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd, was held on October 12, 2012 at Science Hall, Nongpoh. K.W Kyndiah, Chairman of the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Limited graced the occasion as chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kyndiah informed that the National Handicapped Finance Development Corporation (NHFDC) Schemes is a centrally sponsored schemes channelize through the Meghalaya Co-operative Apex Bank Ltd as an implementing agency where through this scheme, disabled people with 40 percent above physically abnormal can avail the facilities provided. Mr Kyndiah also informed that the Bank can provide loans to the disabled with minimum interest with an expectation to help the disabled people to stand on their own feet. He further pointed out that so far only two beneficiaries have come forward to avail the facilities provided by the bank out of the total number of 2180 disabled in the district. Moreover, Mr Kyndiah informed the gathering that some facilities can be provided under the said scheme including education scholarship, grant in aid, Mahila Samajwadi Yojana, a special scheme for women, and many others.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Smti I. Mawlong, ADC Nongpoh, Smti A.M Marak, Deputy Director of Social Welfare, Smti W.K Blah, President of NAWWA and others. The meeting was presided over by Smti C. Kharkongor, Commissioner of Persons with Disability while Shri P.S Kharkongngor, BDO Umling C&RD Block offered a vote of thanks.

DR. MUKUL SANGMA ADDRESSES THE MEGHALAYA CIVIL SERVICE OFFICERS ASSOCIATION 2012

Shillong October 13, 2012 – Speaking as the Chief Guest of the Meghalaya Civil Service Officers’ Association Annual Conference 2012 which was held at the Shillong Club today, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr. Mukul Sangma said, “We are a team which is committed to serving the people and responding to the aspirations of the people.”

“I am sure that you are the most privileged ones as you are able to serve the people and the state which you so dearly love,” Dr. Sangma said. He urged the MCs officers gathered at the function to be ready to learn continuously which will go a long way in equipping them with knowledge and ideas and make them capable of delivering the kind of services which befit the aspirations of the people.

“There has to be substantial initiative from the side of the government where each one of us is capable of living up to expectations and fulfilling the commitment that we have as this will result in better visibility of the end result besides generating hope and happiness among the people whom we serve,” said Dr. Sangma.

“We have a shared objective of serving the State and its people and therefore there is a need for us to ensure that we continue to learn and to re – dedicate ourselves with the same commitment with which we entered the services,” Dr. Sangma said.

In her speech, RV Suchiang , Commissioner of Divisions Khasi, Jaintia and Ri Bhoi District said that there is no point in giving service on an ad – hoc basis while she appealed to her fellow MCS officers who are in the field to take advantage of their close interaction with the people which will result in a huge difference in the governance process in the whole state of Meghalaya.

HMS Shangpliang, President of the MCSOA who also spoke at the function thanked Dr. Mukul Sangma for looking into the general wellbeing and welfare of the MCS officers which has benefited them during his tenure as Chief Minister of Meghalaya. He however pointed out that there are still some issues that need his attention such as the request of the Association to the government to consider the posting of MCS officers as Deputy Commissioners in some districts of the State.

In his speech PW Ingti , Commissioner of Divisions Garo Hills Districts said that people have high expectations of the MCS officers and thus it is very important for them to be faithful to the principles of the Civil Service and also for them to stay true to themselves. The Meghalaya Civil Service Officers’ Association Annual Conference 2012 also witnessed the attendance of the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills Sanjay Goyal besides MCS officers from across the state.

BASIC COURSE FOR COMMISSIONERS HELD

Shillong, October 15, 2012: A 5-day Basic Course for Commissioners was organized by the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, at its State Headquarter in Pinemount – Ridge, Road. 23 Voluntary Commissioners, comprising of senior members, government officials, and heads of different institutions from all the districts of the state attended.

The course was specially organized with due support from the National Headquarters, New Delhi and National Training Centre, Bhopal, who were very keen to develop and tap the Adult Resources potential of the state.

The Course was effectively conducted by Shri B. Ramesh Patnaik, State Secretary of Chattisgarh and assisted by the Team of Trainers of the State. State Commissioners- Sh. W. Lyngdoh and Dr. (Mrs) M. P. R. Lyngdoh, monitored the training.

Topics of importance like growth factor, needs of young people, reaching out and world and national adult resource policy were also discussed. The course was organized as part of the mission to equip the leader of adults for the benefit of the young people, which also coincide with the celebration of the year of the Youth in Meghalaya.

EXHIBITION FOOTBALL MATCH TO BE HELD

Shillong, October 15, 2012: The Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District has informed that Meghalaya Police is organizing exhibition football match between Meghalaya Police XI and Assam Police XI on 18th October 2012 at 2:30 PM at Jawaharlal Nehru Sport Complex.

This is being held as a part of the celebration of 150 years of Indian Police.

MEGHALAYA STATE AQUACULTURE MISSION OFFICIAL WEBSITE LAUNCHED

Shillong, October 15, 2012: Meghalaya Chief Secretary Mr. W. M. S. Pariat today officially launched the website of the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission (MSAM) http://msam.nic.in/ of the Fisheries Department at Hotel Polo Towers, Shillong. The launching programme was attended by Mr. K. N. Kumar, Principal Secretary, Fisheries Department, Mr. T. Dkhar, State Information Officer, Smti. P. L. Lawai, Deputy Secretary Fisheries Department, Smti S. Dkhar, Assistant Director of Fisheries and officers and staff of the department.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. W. M. S. Pariat said that the website was launch with an aim to provide comprehensive information about the Mission and its various projects which will go a long way in informing the public about the mission. Congratulating the department for the launch of the portal, Mr. Pariat directed the department to constantly monitor and update the contents of this website so that it can serve its stated purpose of providing accurate and prompt information to the public.

The main features of the portal include background, objectives, photo gallery, important contact numbers, frequently asked questions, news section and others information about the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission and its six mini missions. The website which is hosted by the NIC provides link to country and state portals.

It may be mentioned that the Aquaculture Mission is part of the flagship programmes of the State government and the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihood Programme. The Aquaculture Mission is operated with an objectives to develop the existing water bodies and creation of additional water area for large scale fish production including reclamation, rehabilitation of marshy and swampy lands, conservation of native endangered and traditional species of Meghalaya and developing breeding farms of commercially potential species on a large scale, creation of mass awareness, capacity building, exposure training and skill development of all the stakeholders and technical support for long term sustainability of fishery sector and capturing emerging opportunities in the fisheries sector. The Aquaculture Mission is further divided into six Mini Missions for better focus and ease of implementation.
