NEW ADMISSION FOR SAINIK SCHOOL

Shillong, October 17, 2012: The Principal, Sainik School Goalpara, Assam has informed that admission for the year 2013-14 is opened for class VI and class IX only and admission forms are available from 15th October to 3rd December 2012 at Rs 400.00 and Rs 450.00 by post. Cost of the form for ST & SC candidates is Rs 250.00 and Rs 300.00 by post.

Application can be downloaded from the school website www.sainikschoolgoalpara.org which has to be submitted along with a Demand Draft drawn in favour of Principal Sainik School Goalpara payable at SBI Mornai (code 9148).

The last date for the receipt of filled in application forms is 10th December 2012 and the entrance examination will be held on 6th January 2013. Detailed information can be obtained from the Principal, Sainik School Goalpara, Assam.

PUBLIC INFORMATION CAMPAIGN ON BHARAT NIRMAN AT SOHRA

Shillong, October 17, 2012: A three day Public Information Campaign cum Exhibition was inaugurated on October 16, 2012 by Mr. Cyril V. Darlong Diengdoh, Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra at the office of the Block Development Officer, Shella Bholaganj. The programme was organized by Press Information Bureau in collaboration with Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP), Directorate of Field Publicity, Doordarshan, All India Radio and S.D.O (C), Sohra Administration. The campaign was organized with a view to create awareness amongst the people particularly in the rural areas and strongly focus on flagship programmes implemented by various government agencies.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Diengdoh said that the main objective of the campaign is to highlight upon the different developmental programmes and schemes of the government like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) etc.”Unless we know what the schemes are all about we will not know what our rights are” he asserted. He stated that we have State’s programmes which have direct involvement with the people and the Right to Information serves as a platform of access to the various schemes implemented by different government departments. Therefore, he called upon one and all to utilize their rights as well as to spread awareness amongst the masses.

There were about 12 exhibition stalls which were participated by different government departments of the Sub-division.

Mr. L. Kynjing, Block Development Officer, Shella Bholaganj Block, Dr. J. Buam, Sub-Divisional Medical & Health Officer, Mrs. H. Papang and Mrs. D. Rynjah, Child Development Project Officer were the Resource persons in the campaign.

WORKING WOMEN HOSTEL FOR NORTH EAST REGION SET UP IN NEW DELHI

Shillong, October 17, 2012: The Ministry of Women and Child Development and the Ministry of DoNER have jointly established a 501-bed Working Women Hostel for women from the North East Region at Jasola, New Delhi. The hostel is located near Apollo Hospital and is being run by YWCA, Delhi. Though this hostel is for working women, girls’ students and trainees who are on short/long training courses are also allowed to stay. SIP HELD

Shillong, October 17, 2012 A one day Special Interactive Programme organised by the office of the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, Tura, was today held at Rongnabak Upper Primary School under West Garo Hills District, Gambegre C and RD Block.

Attending the programme as the Chief Guest, Rubber Board Development Officer, Balakrishna said that the Information and Public Relations department was essential in bridging the gap between the common man and the government. He at length spoke on various State and Central Government sponsored schemes that can be availed through his office and said that rubber was one of the most significant produces in the world essential to mankind. Urging the gathering to opt for rubber plantation as a source of livelihood he said that the rubber board also imparted training to prospective rubber growers. He later informed that the Information and Public Relations department was a tool to educate and create awareness among the people of current affairs and convey necessary information to the populace.

Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, F K Marak delivering the welcome and introductory speech informed the large gathering of villagers that the Special Interactive Programme was being organized to create awareness among the villagers of various Government grants and schemes that could be benefited by the villagers. He urged the gathering to take note of essential information on various departmental schemes and grants that will be informed by invited resource persons during the interactive session.

The inaugural session of the programme was followed by an interactive session wherein the villagers interacted with resource persons from various Government departments. A quiz competition for the students of the school was also conducted during the SIP.

The resource persons present at the SIP were Animal Husbandry and Veterinary APO Dr P C Sangma, Tura District Industries and Commerce Centre IPO T R Marak, ADO, Agriculture Department M R Marak who represented the Block Development Officer of Gambegre block and Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations, Tura, F K Marak.

STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP ON NATIONAL MISSION ON FOOD PROCESSING

Shillong 17th October 2012: Speaking as the Chief Guest of the State level workshop on National Mission on food processing (NMFP) which was organized by the Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Meghalaya with the support of the Ministry of Food Processing, Government of India at hotel Pine Wood today, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr. Mukul Sangma said that with 80 percent of Meghalaya’s population being agrarian, it makes sense that we focus our investment towards empowering this 80 percent of the population economically.

“When we revisit the programmes initiated in the past, we will see that we had a number of attractive programmes sponsored by different ministries of the Government of India which were designed to build partnerships and create an enabling environment for all the potential partners who can ultimately become entrepreneurs and take advantage of these programmes,” Dr. Sangma said while adding, “We could not make the best use of these programmes because the State Government also had to create an enabling environment to be able to utilize these platforms and available schemes and to create successful entrepreneurs.”

“Our Khasis, Garos and Jaintias are not risk takers,” Dr. Sangma said while adding that this is a reason why we see so few entrepreneurs in the State. “If you reach out to our friends who have enough investable reserves, they will have lots of inhibitions to go out of their usual trade. It is very difficult to encourage these people to invest in something new,” Dr. Sangma rued.

Calling for the active participation of this section of the society, the Chief Minister said that in the absence of such potential partners who can be groomed into becoming entrepreneurs, irrespective of the number of programmes that are launched by the State and Central Governments, these will remain just programmes and schemes.

While encouraging this kind of active participation, Dr. Sangma cautioned that care must be taken by such entrepreneurs that the investments they make do not become non – performing assets. There has to be a strong synergy built among the line departments and they have to play the role of guides to the entrepreneurs with regard to the kind of investments the latter make opined Dr. Sangma.
