SPECIAL SUMMARY REVISION OF ELECTORAL ROLLS

The Election Commission of India has specified the dates for undertaking Special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls, 2006 with reference to 1st January, 2006 as the qualifying date.

The Draft publication of rolls is on October 20, 2005, period for filing of claims and objections and reading of relevant part/section of electoral roll in Gram Sabha/Urban Local Bodies and Resident Welfare Association Meeting, etc., will be from October 20, 2005 to November 19, 2005, special campaign dates for receiving claims and objections at all designated locations is on October 28-29, 2005 and November 11-12, 2005. Disposal of claims and objections will be done by November 22, 2005, preparation and printing of supplements of additions, deletions and corrections by January 20, 2006 and final publication of Electoral Rolls will be on January 24, 2006.

DISTRICT PASSPORT CELL OPENED

For the benefit of the common people, the procedure for submission of passport application has been made easier with the opening of the District Passport Cell in all the District Headquarters of the State. This was informed by the Deputy Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Home (Passport) Department.

The applicants can now submit his or her application for passport with requisite fees (Bank Draft in favour of Regional Passport Officer, Guwahati) and other documents in the nearest District Passport Cell. The District Passport Cell will then obtain police report etc from the concerned police authorities and send the applications alongwith all the relevant documents to the Regional Passport Officer, Guwahati for issue of passport.

However, the applicants, if they so desire, can go and submit their applications directly in the Regional Passport Office, Guwahati.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY TO BE CELEBRATED

The Science Club Shillong in collaboration with the office of the District Planning Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong is organizing the National Science Day Celebration of the Year of Physics 2005 for the school going children on October 28, 2005 at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jail Road, Shillong.
