POLICE COMMEMORATION DAY OBSERVED IN SOUTH WEST GARO HILLS DISTRICT

The District Police of South West Garo Hills solemnly observed Police Commemoration Day on Monday, at the office premises of the Superintendent of Police (SP) to honour the ultimate sacrifice of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. The event featured a Sok Parade, a gun salute, and the laying of wreaths as tributes to the martyrs.

Speaking at the occasion, Superintendent of Police, Billy Graham Marak highlighted the significance of the day, reflecting on the tragic events of 1959 when a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) patrol was ambushed by Chinese forces in Ladakh, resulting in the deaths of 10 Indian policemen. He stressed the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers to ensure the safety and security of the nation.

DySP Headquarters Shri Ravi K. Sangma, MPS, honored the fallen heroes by reading the names of 213 police personnel from across the country who made the ultimate sacrifice between 1st September 2023 and 31st August 2024. These officers gave their lives in the line of duty to protect the nation and its people.

The ceremony served as a poignant reminder of the bravery, dedication, and selflessness demonstrated by the police force in their commitment to uphold law and order.

WILDLIFE OFFICE RECOGNIZED WILDLIFE RESCUERS

The Weeklong celebration of Wildlife, themed “Wildlife Conservation through Coexistence” concluded with a valedictory function held at Tpep pale Community Hall, Jowai. During the Valedictory function, the office of the Divisional Forest Officer, Jaintia Hills Wildlife Division, Jowai recognized and awarded the ‘Wildlife Samaritan Award’ to individuals and groups from West Jaintia Hills District and East Jaintia Hills District who have helped and rescued wild animals. A total of 18 individuals and 4 groups from West Jaintia Hills District, including Shri. Mickey Pakem of Sailiny Colony, Jowai for rescuing a Slow Lorsi, Shri. Pyrkhatmi Dkhar of Lapangap Village rescuing a Slow Loris, Smt. Dimiki Mulieh of Wahiajer Village a Keeled Box Turtle, Shri, Muskem Rynkhlem of Muphliang Village a Slow Loris, Shri. Rocky Laloo of Loomkyrwiang a Barn Owl, Shri. Roibok Bang of Iongnoh Village, a Buffy Fish Owl, Shri. Damehi Pale of Mooker Village, a Leopard cat, Shri. Wompher Suchiang of Shangpung village an Indian Scoop Owl, Shri. Marshal Lamare of Nongkynrih Village a Buffy Fish Owl, Shri. Rony Ryngkhlem of Mynthong Village, a European Nightjar, Shri. Shanbor Saiooof Khliehmushut Shangpung Village Leopard Cat, Shri. BecareOrlando Dkhar of Myngsngat village, a Brown Wood Owl, Smt. Deimonmiki Bhoi of Myngsngat village, a Slow Loris, Shri. Khroo Mulieh of Mulang Ialong a Monitor Lizard, Smt. Nibaithi Dkhar of Pmamnik Village a Barn Owl, Shri. Jam Dkhar of Tamu Village a Slow Loris, Shri. Wanmon Phawa of Khliehtyrshi Village a Juvenile unidentified Birds.

Individuals from East Jaintia Hills District including Shri. Ngolchongnia Kungte of Lura Village rescuing Leopard Cat, Smt. Bridalin Dkhar of Moowakhu Village Buffy Fish Owl, Shri. Kini Dkhar of Wapung Village Slow Loris, Shri. Wailad Nongtdu and Shri. Enidawan Shylla of Byndihati village for rescuing Bengal Monitor Lizard.

The office had also conducted a series of activities, like essay, painting and extempore speech to promote the importance of conserving wildlife.

The programme was attended by Shri. SM. Sahai IFS Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Shillong as chief guest, Smt. DV. Lyngdoh ADC West Jaintia Hills District, Shri. PK. Agrahari, IFS Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Shillong, Shri.P. Khade IFS, Assistant Conservator of Forest Jaintia Hills Territorial Division, Jowai, Smt. N Laloo, IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Jowai.

Speaking as Chief Guest, Shri. SM. Sahai IFS Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Shillong, emphasized that dedication to biodiversity and wildlife conservation should arise from our recognition that humanity’s future is intertwined with natures well-being not just from the mandates of the wildlife Protection Act.

He urged everyone to fulfill their responsibilities by carefully naturing and preserving wildlife as any harm to nature ultimately harms humanity.

CONSULTATIVE WORKSHOP WITH COMMUNITY CADRES AND NRLM STAKEHOLDER HELD

The District Mission Management Unit, NRLM-MSRLS, East Jaintia Hills District today organized a Consultative WorkshopwithCommunity Cadres and NRLM Stakeholders at a programme held at Khliehriat West Community Hall, Khliehriat which was attended by Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri ShivanshAwasthi in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. J.U. Kharpuri.

Also present during the programme were Additional Deputy Commissioner &Project Director, DRDA, East JaintiaHils District Shri GautamWarjri, Block Development Officer, Wapung C&RD Block, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr T. Shylla, JRDO- Saipung C&RD Block, Branch Manager MRB, Wapung, Self Help Group, SHG members, representatives from Cluster Level Federation of SHGs, Village Organisations, VOs, VEC members and Traditional Heads.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi emphasized on the importance of Aadhaar Card to the SHG members as it facilitates them in completing the profiling in LOKOS in order to avail various benefits. Moreover, through LOKOS, SHG members can easily access their profile and the Mobile APP also helps the government to identity SHGs and provide them with various support systems.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. J.U. Kharpuri in her speech during the programme underscored the importance of Aadhaar for the citizens of the district as it enables them to avail different schemes of the government. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner &Project Director, DRDA, East JaintiaHils District, Shri GautamWarjri in his address during the programme said that it is the duty of stakeholders including government officials and community leaders to encourage people to complete their Aadhaar enrolment as also linkage of Aadhaar to schemes such as the MHIS and others. He also encouraged those who are yet to get be enrolled under Aadhaar to visit their respective Block Offices for enrolment.

During the programme Secretary and President of San Shnong Cluster Level Federation CLF also gave a presentation depicting the work carried out by them in educating people on the importance of Aadhaar which was followed by the presentation by Maitshaphrang Sakhain Village Organisation, VO. Other highlights of the programme include awards given to the best performing cadres in completing the profiling of LOKOS in their respective villages under Wapung and Saipung C&RD Blocks and awards were also given to Village organisations, VO and Cluster Level Federations, CLFs where 100 percent profiling is completed.

During the programme, it was reiterated by speakers that Aadhaar helps in identifying duplicacy in Name and Bank Account which helps the system to identify the correct SHG members. It may be mentioned that East Jaintia Hills District, with a profiling percentage of 85 percent is ranked number 2 in the state of Meghalaya as far as profiling in LOKOS is concerned.
