Over 58 Youths Receive Appointment Letters Across Various Departments

The 17th edition of the Rozgar Mela was held today at the State Convention Centre, Shillong, as part of the nationwide initiative to provide employment opportunities to the youth. More than 58 youths were handed over appointment letters across various Central Government departments, including 16 candidates in the Department of Posts, 3 in NEEPCO, 2 in the CRPF, 27 in the Railways, and 10 candidates in State Bank of India.

Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Textiles, Shri Pabitra Margherita, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Shri Pabitra Margherita recalled attending the 15th edition of the Rozgar Mela at the same venue six months ago and lauded the continuing enthusiasm among the youth of Meghalaya. “It fills me with immense pride and delight to be here once again. Just six months ago, I attended the 15th edition at this very venue, and it is heartening to see the same optimism in Meghalaya today,” Shri Margherita said.

Highlighting the national impact of the initiative, he added that since the launch of the Rozgar Mela on 22nd October 2022, over one million appointment letters have been distributed across the country, reshaping India’s employment landscape.

The government’s focus on employment generation and skill development has never been stronger. Initiatives such as the Employment-Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme, upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes, and new opportunities under the Skill India Mission are creating pathways for millions of young Indians,” he said.  He further noted that the PLI (Production-Linked Incentive) Scheme alone has generated over 11.5 lakh direct and indirect jobs, laying a robust foundation for India’s industrial growth and economic empowerment.

Encouraging the youth, he remarked, “Each of you present here today represents the strength and potential of India’s growth story. Remember that every small effort counts every role you take up and every citizen you serve becomes a part of India’s story of transformation. Congratulations to all the candidates receiving their appointment letters today, and to the proud parents whose support made this achievement possible.”

The programme began with opening remarks on video by Shri Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State for Science & Technology, followed by a video address from the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, reiterating the government’s commitment to empowering youth through sustained employment and skill-based opportunities.The event was also attended by senior dignitaries including Shri Sanjiv Ranjan, Director of Posts; Shri K.V.L.N. Murty, Chief Postmaster General, North East Circle; Maj. Gen. Shri Rajesh Kumar Jha, Director (Personnel), NEEPCO; Shri J.N. Tusing, Commandant, CRPF; and other senior officials from various departments.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE HELD

MoU FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF DE-ADDICTION &REHABILITATION CENTRE SIGNED

Khliehriat, October 24, 2025:  An Awareness Program on Substance Abuse cum Signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on De-Addiction Centre was today organized by the District Administration, East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA) TI CC, Khliehriat at the Conference Hall, office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat. The programme, chaired by Smt. E. A Sangma, MCS, Assistant Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District was graced by the presence of Smti. Santa Mary Shylla, MLA of 5-Sutnga Saipung Constituency as Chief Guest in the presence of Shri S. Awasthi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri M. Kumar, IAS, SDO (Sadar), Smti. J.U Kharpuri, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shri S. Paslein, MPS, Additional Superintendent of Police, Smti. K. Challam, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaintia Hills District, Dr J. N Shullai, Director, Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA), other officials, traditional heads, VDP members and other stakeholders.

In her address, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla, MLA of 5-Sutnga Saipung Constituency lauded the initiative of the District Administration, East Jaintia Hills District and Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA) for organizing the programme and for their continued efforts to combat substance abuse in the district. She commended the dedication of the Village Defence Parties (VDPs), village headmen and community leaders for their cooperation in maintaining peace and promoting health awareness. She also thanked MCSWA for taking the responsibility of running the soon to be set up De-Addiction Center which will provide much-needed services to those struggling with addiction. The MLA stressed that only through collective understanding and collaboration can the district move forward towards a healthier and drug-free future.

Shri S. Awasthi, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District in his speech emphasised the importance of addressing substance abuse and HIV-related issues through community participation and coordinated intervention. He explained that the De-Addiction Centre will bridge the existing gap in rehabilitation services in the district, reducing the need for patients to seek treatment outside. He also urged law enforcement personnel and VDP members to carry out their duties with sensitivity and understanding, noting that compassion and awareness are key to effective rehabilitation. The Deputy Commissioner further mentioned that with support from the Tourism Department and the Department of Social Welfare, the De-Addiction Centre will soon be made operational and accessible to all, aiming for a drug-free and inclusive district. Smt. J.N. Shullai, Director of MCSWA in her speech appreciated the VDPs in East Jaintia Hills for being responsive and urged everyone not to discriminate against drug users or resort to stigmatization of sex workers. She informed that 2,374 people in East Jaintia Hills have registered for treatment in ART Centres while in West Jaintia Hills those registered in ART Centres for medication are 3,189 in number.

Shri S. Paslein, MPS, Additional Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District stressed that the fight against drugs must be collective, as the district’s proximity to the Myanmar border poses unique challenges in curbing trafficking. He further urged the gathering to support law enforcement even as he expressed appreciation for the village headmen and VDP members for their continued cooperation in maintaining peace and order. During the session, Shri Aris J. Nongkynrih, Chief Functionary, MCSWA presented the Road Map on the Establishment of the 15-Bedded Drug De-Addiction & Rehabilitation Centre in East Jaintia Hills, thanking the District Administration and DMF Trust for enabling this public-civil society partnership.

It may be mentioned that this initiative has been made possible through the approval of the Tourism Department for the utilisation of the non-functional Tourist Lodge at Deinchynrum, which the DMF Trust, East Jaintia Hills District is transforming into a fully functional facility through structural and infrastructural upgrades. Under the MoU, the building has been allocated to MCSWA rent-free, with all renovation works supervised by the DMF to ensure the facility meets the Minimum National Quality Standards for Rehabilitation Centres before the formal handover.

Once operational, the centre will initially cater exclusively to male beneficiaries, providing Clinical Detox Support with medical oversight, Therapeutic & Psychiatric Counselling, Social Reintegration and Family Counselling, Relapse Prevention and Community-based Follow-up. Others who spoke during the occasion include Smti. J. U. Kharpuri, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District who spoke on Women’s Welfare and Smti. K. Challam, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaintia Hills District who emphasised the importance of understanding the rights and rehabilitation needs of high-risk groups, including female sex workers and persons affected by HIV. Both speakers urged the public to end the stigma and discrimination and to work towards a more inclusive and compassionate society.

BLOCK LEVEL CHIEF MINISTER’S YOUTH ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMME CONCLUDES

Khliehriat, October 24, 2025:  The office of the District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO), Saipung C&RD Block, East Jaintia Hills District today concluded the two-day Block Level Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) 2025 for Saipung C&RD Block at Latyrke Playground, East Jaintia Hills District. The two-day programme aimed to inspire and engage the youth in constructive activities while fostering a spirit of unity, discipline and leadership.

"The concluding ceremony was attended by Block Development Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr R. Pyrtuh in the presence of District Sport Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. S. M Rapsang, Headman of Latryke Village, Shri J. Sutnga, teachers, students and many others. Speaking on the occasion, the Block Development Officer of Saipung C&RD Block, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr R. Pyrtuh highlighted that the Government of Meghalaya has been continuously working through multiple departments to create opportunities for youth across the state. He stated that the programme focuses on human development, particularly the overall growth of young individuals who are the foundation of the state’s future.

"Dr Pyrtuh further emphasized that the initiative seeks to strengthen personal development by providing a platform for the youth to gain confidence, showcase their talents and enhance their capabilities. He also said that the programme also encourages relationship building by facilitating interactions among students from diverse villages by promoting teamwork, unity, and leadership qualities. Furthermore, Dr Pyrtuh said that another objective of the programme was to broaden the perspectives of the young minds through meaningful engagement, cultural exchange and learning from peers even as he stated that cultural performances presented by participating schools showcased the rich traditions of the communities in the region, adding to the spirit of unity in diversity.

Additionally, he also encouraged all participants to remain motivated and continue their active involvement in such programmes and further said that the Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) will be annual event, providing continuous opportunities for the youth to showcase their skills and broaden their horizons. The programme featured a variety of competitions including One Act Play, Guitar Playing (Solo), Declamation, Quiz, Tug of War, Painting, Folk Dance, Folk Song, Science Mela, Poetry Writing, Story Writing and Talent Show.

"In the quiz competition, Christopher Chyrmang and Kyrkhulang Bareh from Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet bagged the first and second prizes respectively while the third prize was won by Sakhaios Paslein from Pala Village. In the Tug of War, Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet emerged as the winner while Latyrke S.C and Lumjingshai Secondary School, Tluh bagged the second and third prizes respectively. In story writing, Ram Chyrmang from Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet won the first prize, Enishwa Kympat from Lumjingshai Secondary School, Tluh secured the second prize, and Bravewell Tangliang from Mooriap Village bagged the third prize. In the Painting Competition, Jerry Nampui from Saipung Society took the first position followed by Angela Nongtdu and Wanda O Langstang from Syrlein Secondary School, Jalaphet in the second and third places respectively."

"In the Talent Show, Lalungthlai Nampui from Saipung was announced as the winner followed by Donal Pohthmi from Lumjingshai Secondary School, Tluh and Angela Nongtdu  from Syrlein Secondary School, Jalaphet who bagged the second and third prizes respectively. In the Declamation Competition, Disa Shyrmang from Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet was declared as the winner while in Guitar (Solo) Competition, Damutshwa Paslein from Syrlein Secondary School, Jalaphet was adjudged the winner. In the Folk Song Competition, Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet was announced as the winner. In the Folk Dance Competition, Lumjingshai Secondary School, Tluh was awarded as the winner while Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet were announced as the runner up. In the One Act Play Competition, Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet secured the prize while in the Science Mela, Heiborme Chyrmang & Group from Sein Raij Secondary School were awarded the winning trophy.

"With the Saipung Block event completed, the next CM-YEP is set to be held on 28th and 29th October, 2025 at Lumshnong Community Hall, Lumshnong for students and the youth under Lumshnong Block. IIM SHILLONG HOSTS HT – “IDEAS MATTER MOST”: TOGETHER TOWARDS INDIA@2047

IIM Shillong hosted HT – Ideas Matter Most under the theme “Together Towards India@2047: Community–Industry Synergy for Innovation and Growth.” The event brought together policymakers, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, and academicians to deliberate on innovation, community engagement, and India’s transformative journey toward Viksit Bharat 2047. Delivering the Inaugural Address, Prof. Naliniprava Tripathy, Director (I/C), IIM Shillong, emphasized that India’s development vision calls for collective effort and shared responsibility. She noted that synergy among government, industry, academia, and society is essential for achieving inclusive and sustainable growth. Prof. Tripathy reiterated that IIM Shillong’s mission—anchored in values-driven leadership, responsible management, and community engagement—resonates deeply with the objectives of Viksit Bharat 2047.

The inaugural session was followed by an inspiring keynote talk by Shri Madhu Chandan, Founder and CEO of Organic Mandya, who shared his entrepreneurial journey and the transformation of farmers into agri-entrepreneurs. He encouraged young minds to “think differently, act courageously, and pioneer ideas that challenge conventional boundaries.” His message of community-rooted innovation and sustainability resonated strongly with the audience. Adding a policy and intellectual dimension, Dr. Suvrokamal Dutta, Economic and Foreign Policy Expert, spoke on the significance of cultivating “Viksit Gyan” (developed knowledge) and “Viksit Sooch” (progressive thought) as key pillars of nation-building. He emphasized that achieving Viksit Bharat@2047 depends on fostering Atma Nirbhar Bharat—a self-reliant India powered by indigenous innovation, intellectual advancement, and global engagement. The event featured two thematic panel discussions that deepened the dialogue on innovation-led and inclusive growth.

The first panel, “CSR: Identifying Key Focus Areas for Community–Industry Partnerships for Inclusive Innovation,” was moderated by Prof. Rohit Dwivedi, Professor, IIM Shillong. The session explored CSR as a catalyst for collaboration between academia, industry, and communities. The panel comprised Ankur Chaturvedi (ESG Lead, Vice President & Chief of Sustainability, Emami Limited), Kasturika S (Director – Skill and Campus Engagement, Wipro Limited), Sita Baruah (Senior General Manager – CSR, Indian Oil Corporation Limited), and Mintu Handique (Chief General Manager, Numaligarh Refinery Limited). The discussion emphasized that CSR initiatives, when aligned with community priorities and local needs, can drive inclusive innovation while reinforcing responsible business practices.

The second panel, “Vision North East – Driving Economic Competitiveness through People and Communities,” was moderated by Prof. Sanjeeb Kakoty, Professor, IIM Shillong. The panel featured P. Narayana Bhatta (CEO, Latlong ai, Mintu Handique (Chief General Manager, Numaligarh Refinery Limited), Ramen Lal Baishya (Deputy Director, Tea Board of India), and Himanshu Shekhar (Senior Editor, NDTV). The discussion explored how the Northeast region can leverage its unique strengths—human talent, natural resources, and cultural diversity—to build a sustainable and innovation-driven economy. Speakers emphasized that empowering local communities, developing skills, and fostering entrepreneurship are essential to unlocking the region’s potential and advancing India’s broader growth agenda.

A series of thought-provoking talk sessions added further depth to the proceedings. Naina More, Celebrity Speaker, inspired the audience with reflections on creativity and perseverance. P. Narayana Bhatta discussed the power of geospatial intelligence in shaping data-driven innovation and governance. Himanshu Shekhar highlighted the role of storytelling and media in influencing innovation and public perception. Aravinda Kamireddy (IT Cater Inc., USA) spoke on cross-border collaboration and technology exchange, while Amresh Pratap Yadav (General Manager – Campus Branding, Johnson Controls) shared insights on cultivating purpose-led corporate cultures that encourage innovation and responsibility.

Towards the close of the event, Shri Pranav Kumar, CEO, Ideas Matter Most Ventures Pvt. Ltd., expressed gratitude to IIM Shillong for hosting the event and noted that the Ideas Matter Most platform continues to inspire meaningful dialogue and impactful ideas for India’s growth journey toward 2047. The event concluded with the “Emerging Ideas Award” Ceremony, celebrating outstanding entrepreneurial ideas that demonstrated creativity, sustainability, and social impact. The top three entries were recognized with trophies and certificates for their vision and feasibility. The awards symbolized the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity that defines the Ideas Matter Most initiative.

The event was organised by Corporate Affairs, IIM Shillong.
