HEALTH MELA TO BE HELD

Shillong, October 26, 2012: A 2 day Health Mela under National Rural Health Mission will be held at Nongspung PHC on 31st October, 2012 and 1st November, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Mr. J. A. Lyngdoh, Meghalaya Minister incharge Social Welfare will be the chief guest on the 31st October, 2012 at 11:00 AM.

During this mela there will be free medical and health check up by government doctors and specialist doctors of different departments will be available for consultation, immunization services, free medicine and basic lab test will be provided, baby show competition for children within 2 months to 2 years of age, drawing competition for school student, quiz competition and exhibition.

RNTCP ZONAL TASK FORCE WORKSHOP TO BE HELD

Shillong, October 26, 2012: The Central TB Division, Government of India along with NEIGRIHMS and the State TB Cell, Meghalaya will be conducting a Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) Zonal Task Force Workshop for the North East Zone comprising of the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura on the 1st and 2nd November 2012 at NEIGRIHMS Auditorium, Shillong.

RNTCP is a programme which provides tuberculosis treatment services for free in India since 2006 and is constantly finding ways and means to improve treatment services in the state and the country as a whole. In this endeavour all states and union territories implementing RNTCP and having medical colleges have now formed the task force for the coordination of efforts of medical colleges. The initiative towards greater involvement of medical colleges in the programme has gained momentum and there is growing professional consensus in India regarding the efficacy of the DOTS strategy. Presently, over 291 medical colleges are participating in the programme.

ORDER UNDER SECTION 144 CR PC

Shillong, October 26, 2012: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District has promulgated an Order under Section 144 Cr PC prohibiting holding of hunger strike within a radius of 1 Km from the Main Secretariat building.

This order has been enforced in view of the hunger strike organized by Mr Pynskhemlang Nongshlong from 26th October, 2012 onwards which, if allowed, is likely to cause inconveniences to the officers and staff working in the Main Secretariat and surrounding offices which may result in breach of peace, disturbance of public tranquility and may lead to a riot or an affray.

This Order comes into force with immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

WORKSHOP OF E PROCUREMENT

Shillong, October 26, 2012: The National Informatics Centre in collaboration with the Information Technology Department, Government of Meghalaya is organizing a State Level Workshop on e-Procurement (GePNIC) as MMP under NeGP for the Government officials on October 29, 2012 at the Training Hall, New Information Technology Department Building, Shillong. The Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, Mr. W M S Pariat will inaugurate the programme.

CLOSE TO 600 PARTICIPATE IN THE RUN TO VOTE IN TURA

Shillong, October 26, 2012: The Deputy Commissioner (Election), West Garo Hills, in collaboration with the District Sports Office, Tura, organized “Run to Vote” – an election run under Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Plan, from Chandmary Playground to Tura MP Stadium, Dakopgre today morning.

The event was organized as part of the Election Commission’s massive awareness dissemination programme to generate maximum electoral participation and to motivate the youth who have attained the age of 18 to enroll themselves in the electoral roll as the photo electoral rolls revision is being done till October 31, 2012.

The Run was flagged off by the Deputy Director, Soil & Water Conservation Department, Shillong, Mr. Shekhar K. Sangma, in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, Tura, Pravin Bakshi, Additional Deputy Commissioner & PD, DRDA, Tura, Ambrose Ch. Marak, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Election), Hazel.D.B.Sangma, other ADCs and district officials.

Close to 600 runners participated in the run covering about 7 kms from Chandmary to MP Stadium, Dakopgre, via Ringrey, Hawakhana, Tetengkol, Araimile and converging at the Stadium for a short voters’ awareness programme.

Earlier, while addressing the participants before the flag-off at Chandmary Playground, the Deputy Commissioner and the District Election Officer, Mr. Bakshi said that in view of the coming general Assembly elections next year, it was imperative to create mass awareness on the need for greater electoral participation for stronger democracy. He said that under SVEEP Plan, the target was to ensure systematic enrolment of qualified voters and ensure maximum participation of already enrolled voters and urged the youth who have attained the age of 18 years or above and even those who were not 18 yet but would be on January 1, 2013, to get themselves registered in electoral roll by applying in Form 6 till 31st of this month. He added that the “Run to Vote” was being organized as a means of reaching out to the people and spreading the message of participatory democracy among the citizens.

ADC (Election) H.D.B.Sangma and EAC, Tura, Mr. C.N.Sangma were among others who also spoke on the occasion.

The winners of the “Run to Vote” in different categories are as follows: In 18-25 years Men’s category: 1st – Clever G. Momin, 2nd - Harverth Momin, 3rd – Roston R. Marak. 18-25 (Women): 1st – Rosina Ch. Momin, 2nd – Lucy Ch. Marak, 3rd – Moily N. Sangma. 26 and above (Men): 1st – Deckson D. Sangma, 2nd – Tengbat R. Marak, 3rd – Winsbirth K. Marak, 26 and above (Women): 1st – Olivia T. Sangma, 2nd – Sudilla Ch. Marak, 3rd – Happylla T. Sangma, while Campbell B. Sangma and Sarmila T. Sangma were adjudged the oldest participants in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
