FOUNDATION STONE OF SCHOOL BUILDING INAUGURATED

The foundation stone of the new school building of the Maharam Secondary School, Mawkyrwat was laid by Mr. B B Nongsiej, MLA at the school premises recently. Mr. Nongsiej was accompanied by the EAC, Mawkyrwat, Mr. P Kharkongor, Deputy Director, Public Instruction, Mr. L Bamon and members of the school managing committee.

In his speech, Mr. Nongsiej lauded the effort of the school managing committee for their hard work and dedication to develop the school for the benefit of the students of the area and the District as a whole. He also informed that the amount sanction for the construction of the school is being borne by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He then informed that the school will soon be upgraded to the Higher Secondary School with Science stream. He also urged upon the student to work hard so that they will prosper in their future, adding that the teacher should play a vital role in spreading quality education to the students.

Other who spoke on the occasion were EAC, Mawkyrwat, Mr. P Kharkongor, Deputy Director, Public Instruction, Mr. L Bamon, while member managing committee, Mr. DD Khardewsaw offered the vote of thanks.

The function was presided over by Mr. H Upadhaya, Headmaster, Maharam Secondary School.

DISTRICT PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL MEETING

The Deputy Speaker, Meghalaya Assembly, Mr.P.W.Muktieh who is also the Chairman, District Planning and Development Council (DP&DC), Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh today convened the DP & DC Meeting at the Circuit House, Nongpoh to have scrutinize and examine the plan schemes of different departments for the 11th Five Year Plan and Annual Plan 2007-2008 in need of approval to be submitted to the government. The Deputy Commissioner and Additional Deputy Commissioner also attended the meeting.

The officers of different departments highlighted their proposed plan schemes as well as the other ongoing schemes.

Mr. Muktieh was very happy at the active cooperation of the officers and said that many developmental schemes would come up in the district for which he hoped that they would further extend their sincere efforts towards proper implementation of the schemes in order to accelerate the developmental activities in the district and the state as a whole.
