Press Release No. 284/21 AWARENESS PROGRAMME ORGANISED BY DISTRICT LEGAL SERVICES AUTHORITY, EAST KHASI HILLS ON 29.10.2021 On the occasion of Pan India Awareness and Outreach Programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA) and District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills District organised an awareness programme on the topics-‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012’ and ‘Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006', on 29th October, 2021 at the Community Hall Nongkrem Village. Addressing the inaugural programme as the Chief Guest, Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, Justice W. Diengdoh enlightened the gathering about the provisions of POCSO Act, 2012 and also encouraged the participants to sensitize others about the evils of child marriage that is prevalent in the society. During the programme, the resource persons, Daisily Thangkhiew, Legal Aid Counsel, DLSA, Shillong, Smti Matti L Warjri, DCPO, District Child Protection Unit, East Khasi Hills District and SI I Kharjana from the Police Department covered the topics namely, ‘Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and Child Marriage’, ‘Role of Child Welfare Committee and District Child Protection Officer in the rehabilitation of child in conflict with law and child in need of care and protection’ and ‘Police and Public Relation in curbing crime against children’ respectively during the awareness programme. The programme was also attended by District and Sessions Judge, Shri N. A. Khan, Officer on Special Duty, MSLSA, Shri T. T. M. Sangma and Miss Daphira Sohtun, Secretary, DLSA, East Khasi Hills District among others. |
Press Release No. 285/21 MEGHALAYA GOVERNOR INDUCTED AS THE CHIEF PATRON OF THE MEGHALAYA BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES Meghalaya Governor, Shri. Satya Pal Malik was today inducted as the Chief Patron of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides in a ceremony held at the Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Shillong. Speaking on the occasion, Shri. Satya Pal Malik said that the Bharat Scouts and Guides is a benevolent organization for young people as well as the community and hoped that he would be able to lend his support to the Movement for the betterment of the society. Recognizing the efforts of the Bharat Scouts and Guides in tackling the COVID -19 situation as well as supporting Central Government initiatives such as Fit India Movement, Khelo India and Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav, he urged the members to continue with their good initiatives and to utilize the young people’s force to motivate and generate awareness among the masses. Shri. D P Wahlang, State Chief Commissioner, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides informed that following the directives of the Scouts and Guides Movement from the National Headquarters, New Delhi to increase the membership g of the Scouts and Guides in the country to total of 1 crore membership by 2025, the Meghalaya Chapter of the Movement issued directives to all schools, colleges and universities to identify faculty members and also to pep up students to join as beginners and form units in their respective institutions. Songs and dances were also presented by the members on the occasion. |
