SIP HELD AT RI BHOI DISTRICT

Shillong, October 31, 2011: The office of the District Public Relations Officer, Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District organized a one day Special Interactive Programme (SIP) on the theme “Protect Nature and Save Environment for Happy Living” on October 28, 2011 at Tdoh Umsiang, Khlieh Umtrew. The programme was inaugurated by the Extra Assistant Commission, Ri Bhoi District, Mr. R Kharbihkhiew in the presence of hundreds of people, including headmen, teachers, students and local residents of the area.

Resource persons at the programme which included the Block Development Officer, C & RD Block, Mr. P Khonglah and ACDPO, Umsning ICDS, Mrs. N Nonglang spoke at length on matters relating to the activities and implementations of various schemes undertaken by their department for the welfare of the people.

In his inaugural speech, Mr. Kharbihkhiew said that the programme help the people in the rural areas to familiarize on the schemes and projects being implemented through various government departments, adding that the rural populace is not aware of the availability of schemes nor understand the procedures on how to obtain the schemes. Besides, he said that the programme provides a platform for the people to interact with government officials and get first hand information on matters which relates to the welfare of the society as a whole. Therefore, he called upon the people to extend their cooperation to the Government so that schemes can be made available to the public at large.

During the day, sports and drawing competition was conducted for school children and prizes to the winners were distributed by the Chief Guest and Resource persons.

The programme was presided over by Mr. R Susngi, DPRO, Nongpoh.

NATIONAL DAY FOR DISASTER REDUCTION HELD

Shillong, October 31, 2011: National Day for Disaster Reduction on the theme “Disaster Mitigation and preparedness” was held at the Conference Hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District.

To create awareness among the school students and to sensitize them towards disasters and their management an Essay and Drawing & Painting competition for school students on September 28 and 29, 2011 were conducted where ten schools of the District participated. Cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners of the competitions.

Word of advised and encouragement to the students was given by the Deputy Commissioner, Jaintia Hills District, Mr. T.Dkhar. Mr. S.Ryngad, Deputy Controller CD & HG Jaintia Hills District also briefed the students while S.C. Laloo and officer incharge of Disaster Management delivered the vote of thanks.

REGISTRATION OF MARRIAGE

Shillong, October 31, 2011: The Under Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Registration Department has informed to the general public that the Draft Bill of the Compulsory Registration of Marriage in the State of Meghalaya is available in the website http://meghalaya.gov.in and all are invited to send their suggestion within 2 weeks from the date of publication of this press communiqué.

CM CONDEMNS KILLING OF POLICE PERSONNEL

Shillong the 31st October, 2011: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr Mukul Sangma has strongly condemned the cold blooded murder of 4(four) police personnel, who were on patrol duty and 1(one) civilian driver today at about 04.30PM at Nengpatchi about 4 kms away from Dobu towards Darugre, NH-62 under Williamnagar Police Station in an ambush by suspected GNLA militants.

The deceased police personnel were identified as Havildar Victor Marak, Havildar P Sangma, Constable Aprilson Sangma and UB constable Namseng Marak. Two police constables Peter Sangma and D Sangma received bullet injuries and were taken to Tura Civil Hospital.

Dr Mukul Sangma stated that the cowardly act by the suspected GNLA militants deserves to be condemned by all sections of the society. He said that the Government will not rest until the perpetrators of this heartless act are apprehended and dealt with a firm hand in accordance with the law.

Dr Mukul Sangma on behalf of the Government and on his behalf expressed the condolences to the bereaved families stating that their selfless sacrifice for the cause of peace and security in the State will not go in waste. He also announced that ex-gratia relief of Rs.7.5 lakh will be given to the next of kin of the deceased on priority.

The Government also reiterated its firm resolve and commitment to take all necessary steps to tackle the problem posed by the GNLA and similar groups and will not spare any effort in bringing complete peace and normalcy throughout the State. (mipr)
