Press Release No. 476/12 SIP HELD AT NONGRIMAI Shillong, October 31, 2012: A one day Special Interactive Programme on the theme “ Bad Habit, Kills….?” was organized by the Office of the Sub-Divisional Public Relations Officer, Mairang at Nongrimai village, Nongkhlaw on 30th October 2012. The function was attended by a large number of people including youths and students of the surrounding area. The lecture given by Shri S. S. Marbaniang of New Hope Centre, Shillong on Alcohol and Substance Abuse has created a positive response from the public as has been witnessed from the interesting interaction on the theme. While Shri P Wahlang, who attended the programme as resource person spoke about the causes and the ill-effects of HIV & AIDS. An impressive skit was also presented on the day by the students of Nongrimai Secondary school and the inmates of New Hope Centre besides dance and songs. The function ended with a vote of thanks from the Sordar, Shri S Nongrang. |
Press Release No. 477/12 IMPLEMENTATION OF SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT AND SEWERAGE PROJECT UNDER NERCCDIP Shillong, October 31, 2012: Meghalaya Minister of Urban Affairs Department Mrs. Ampareen Lyngdoh held a discussion on the Implementation of Solid Waste Management and Sewerage Project under North Eastern Region Capital Cities Development Investment Programme (NERCCDIP) on 31st October, 2012 at Meghalaya Secretariat Committee Hall, Shillong. The NERCCDIP has been designed to improved the urban environment and promote reforms for sustainable efficient and responsive urban service delivery in the capital cities of five states in the North-Eastern Region including Shillong. In the course of discussion, it was informed that the programme will be implemented in two parts. For part-A, urban infrastructure and services improvement including the rehabilitation, improvement and expansion of water supply, sewerage and sanitation and solid waste management. For part-B, physical improvement will be coupled with Urban Governance, Finance and Services delivery reform and a capacity building programme to support the implementation of the investment programme and the urban reform agenda. The programme in Shillong will support development of sewerage system, development of solid waste management facilities, including an engineered landfill site and improvement of primary and secondary collection as well as creating beneficiary awareness. After discussion, Mrs. Ampareen Lyngdoh suggested that NERCCDIP should co-ordinate with Municipals and HPL regarding the project and this she felt will show positive result. Others who attended the meeting were Mr. P. Naik, Principal Secretary of Urban Affairs, B. K. Panda, Director of Urban Affairs, Rangbah Shnongs of different localities and others. |
