Press Release No. 1122/17 WILDLIFE WEEK CELEBRATION CONCLUDES A weeklong celebration of Wildlife Week, 2017 concluded today wherein Forests & Environment Minister, Shri Clement Marak graced the valedictory function as Chief Guest at All Saint’s Hall, IGP Point, Shillong. The programme was organised by the Wildlife Wing of the Forests & Environment Department, Government of Meghalaya. In his address as Chief Guest, Shri Clement Marak said that wildlife plays a vital role in our lives and helps in maintaining and balancing the eco-system. It is imperative that we as human beings adopt the principle of mutual co-existence to preserve and protect it, he added. He also urged upon the gathering to volunteer and work together in preserving the rich bio-diversity of the State. During the function, the Chief Guest distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions held as part of the weeklong celebration and also handed over the Wildlife Samaritan Award, 2017 to wildlife rescuers, who helped and rescued the wild animals in distress. Earlier, the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries released a poster on “Butterflies of Nongkhyllem”. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & HoFF, Meghalaya, Shri C. P. Marak, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (T), Meghalaya, Shri Y. S. Shullai, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) & Chief Wildlife Warden, Meghalaya, Shri B. S. Kharmawphlang and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Forests & Environment Department, Shri A. Mawlong was also present at the valedictory function. |
Press Release No. 1123/17 RASHTRIYA EKTA DIWAS AND RASHTRIYA SANKALP DIWAS OBSERVED The District Administration, East Khasi Hills in collaboration with the District Sports Office, East Khasi Hills and Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills organized a series of programmes today in the city to observe the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) and Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-Dedication Day). Earlier in the day, Meghalaya Governor, Shri Ganga Prasad flagged off the “Run for Unity’ organised as part of the observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) at Madan Iewrynghep, Shillong in the presence of Shri K. N. Kumar, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Shri P. S. Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District among others. The run start from Madan Iewrynghep via Malki Point, IGP, DC’s Office, Raj Bhavan and culminated at J.N. Sports Complex, Polo Ground. Deputy Commissioner, Shri P. S. Dkhar, distributes the prizes to the winners and administered the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to all participants. Later in the day, Shri D. N. R. Marak, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District flagged off the cars and bike rally from State Central Library premises. The Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shri P. S. Dkhar administered the Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-Dedication Day) pledge to all the participants at the venue. In Sohra Civil Sub-Division, the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Civil Sub-Division led the Officers and Staff in administering the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) and Rashtriya Sankalp Diwas (National Re-Dedication Day) Pledge at the Conference Hall, Office of the Sub-Divisional Officer (C), Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Sohra. |
Press Release No. 1124/17 STATE LEVEL CHILDRENS SCIENCE CONGRESS BEGINS The two-day ‘State Level Congress’ of the ‘25th National Children's Science Congress-2017’ kick started today at the Meghalaya Agriculture Management & Extension Training Institute (MAMETI), 5th Mile, Upper Shillong . Organized by the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education & Literacy, the science congress was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. R.C Laloo who was the Chief Guest at the programme, in the presence of Shri. P.B.O Warjri, State Chief Information Commissioner who attended the function as Guest of Honour. Also present at the inaugural function were Dr.B.D.R Tiwari, Secretary, Planning Department & Member Secretary, State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya, Shri. Jayanta Kumar Sarma, Member, National Academic Committee, National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC), distinguished academicians, government officials, students, teachers and parents. During his address to the gathering at the inaugural programme, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr.R.C Laloo expressed happiness at being associated with the programme even as he congratulated the organizers for providing the right platform to the young students from various nooks and corners of the state with an opportunity to engage in mutual exchange of knowledge and ideas, which will in turn help in building scientific temper among them. Dr. Laloo also expressed optimism that more projects are generated from such platforms in the years to come which may help in the formulation of programmes and interventions by the state government in future. While highlighting on the fact how each student has an opportunity to make a contribution to the society, State Chief Information Commissioner, Shri. P.B.O Warjri, called upon the young minds to use science as a medium to improve the quality of life for the betterment of the state and country. It may be mentioned that this year, of the 45 projects selected for the ongoing state level congress , 8 projects will be selected to represent the State of Meghalaya at the National Children’s Science Congress which will be held at Science City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 27th- 31st December 2017. Earlier in the programme, eleven students who secured highest marks in Science & Technology at the MBOSE, SSLC examination 2017 were felicitated as a mark of recognition to their efforts and to further encourage them to pursue science in their future higher studies. |
Press Release No. 1125/17 TRAINING ON VVPATS A one day training programme on the use and operation of EVMs with VVPATs was held today in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District Nongstoin. Shri P. D. Sangma, ADC who is also a master trainer gave a detailed explanation on various parts and functions of the machines to be used during the election. He also informed that nine VVPATs machines was allotted for the District to create an awareness among the general public in Polling Station of 30-Mairang (ST), 31-Mawthadraishan (ST), 32-Nongstoin (ST), 33-Rambrai Jyrngam (ST) and 34-Mawshynrut (ST) Assembly Constituency. The training ended with the practical test of the machines. The Election Branch, West Khasi Hills District has also conducted training for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) on Special Summary Revision of Electoral Roll for filing of claims and objections from 31-10-2017 to 30-11-2017 at Trysem Hall, DC’s office, Nongstoin on 31st October, 2017. |
