INTERNATION DAY OF THE ELDERLY CELEBRATED

The International Day of the Elderly Persons was celebrated recently in Nongstoin amid great enthusiasm by the elderly persons of Nongstoin area.

To mark the day, a public function was organized to felicitate the elderly persons of the area. Mr. D. Wahlang, MCS. Block Development officer, Nongstoin C&RD Block Nongstoin was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking of the occasion, Mr. Wahlang said the young should respect and care the elders as they need the companionship and the attention. Stating that the elders are the pillars of the society, Mr. Wahlang emphasized that the society in general needs to recognize the various contributions made by the elders in building up the future of the present generation.

Gifts were also distributed to all the elders who were present in the meeting. Two elderly persons Mr. Edon Wanniang, 103 years and Mr. Monsing Wahlang, 109 years were specially felicitated because of the ages.

Among those who spoke on the occasion includes, Sister Magdalene, Sister Superior, St. Peters’ Secondary School, Pyndengrei, Mrs. P. Kynshikhar, Secretary, Greater Nongstoin Women Social Welfare Organisation and Mr. L.M. Momin, District Programme Officer, ICDS Cell, Nongstoin.

The meeting was presided over by Mrs. J. Shabong, District Social Welfare Officer, Nongstoin.
