AMPATI KICKS OFF ELECTION DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS

Shillong, October 7, 2010: The celebration of 60 years of Election Commission of India begun at Ampati, West Garo Hills District with a grand rally today, the 7th October, 2010.

Students from various schools in Ampati, officers, youth club members, teachers and members from the public participated in the procession which was flagged off by the EAC, Ampati, Mr. W D Sangma. They marched through the streets of Ampati carrying banners and placards with slogans like “Voting is my right, my power to decide”, “Let us join hands for free, fair and peaceful elections for a better India”, “I am Indian, I decide my future with my vote”, “Election is democracy, democracy means power to decide” and many others.

Earlier before the procession, the EAC explained to the gathering that the diamond jubilee of the Election Commission of India were being celebrated throughout the country and likewise in Ampati Sub-Division also the administration have already chalked out various programmes in different parts of the Sub-Division as part of the celebration.

Various competitions like essay-writing, quiz and debate on election-related themes will be organized for students during the celebration.

The administration would also identify and felicitate the oldest voter in the Sub-Division. Distribution of prizes for winners in the competitions and felicitation of the oldest voter have been scheduled for January 26, 2011 coinciding with the Republic Day celebrations.

APPLICATION OF LICENSE

Shillong, October 7, 2010: The Chief Executive Officer, Shillong Municipal Board has informed all shop owners/shop keepers/traders falling within the area of the Shillong Municipality that as per the Municipal Act and Bye Laws, all shops/trades that take place within Shillong Municipality require due license from the Shillong Municipal Board. Such persons are to apply for valid license within the 20th October, 2010 failing which action will be taken against defaulters.
