ORIENTATION PROGRAMME FOR JRDOS HELD

The Community and Rural Development Department and State Institute of Rural Development in collaboration with Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute today organised an Orientation Programme for the newly recruited Junior Rural Development Officers at Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat, Shillong. Chief Secretary, Shri D P Wahlang attended the inaugural programme as Chief Guest in the presence of Principal Secretary, C and RD Department, Shri Sampath Kumar.

Speaking on the occasion Shri D P Wahlang congratulated the officers for making it to their respective posts and encouraged them to dedicate their services for the interest of the people at large. He stated that their main job is to interact with the public on the ground he urged them to be cautious, sensitive and be respectful to people opinions and to interact with them in a language they can understand. While stating that Meghalaya has a large rural economy, the officers contribution will make a direct impact on the GSDP of the state, he said.

Shri Wahlang further encouraged the officers to move forward and take decisions to ensure that people lives are positively impacted, without fear of failure. He also highlighted the need for financial planning for the junior officers so as to have secure savings when they retire.

FOUNDATION STONE LAID FOR UPGRADATION OF KHERAPARA PHC TO CHC

Health and Family Welfare Minister, Government of Meghalaya, James P K Sangma laid the Foundation Stone for the Upgradation of Kherapara PHC to community Health Centre at Kherapara PHC in West Garo Hills District in the presence of Local MLA and Chairman Board of Directors MTDC Ltd Saleng A Sangma, Babelapara MDC and Chairman, GDADC, High Powered Committee Rakesh A Sangma and other distinguished dignitaries. It may be mentioned that the Nokma of Kherapara has generously donated the required land for the CHC.

Addressing the gathering, Health and Family Welfare Minister, James P K Sangma expressed his gratitude to Saleng A Sangma, Local MLA for his initiative and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for his kind consideration and support in fulfilling the long cherished dream of the people of the area. Mentioning that the present status of PHC caters to only two Medical Officers, he said that with the completion of the upgradation of CHC, it would have more facilities with a surgeon, gynaecologist, anaesthesia, ophthalmologist, etc along with nurses and other para medical staff. He also called upon the people to avail health care facilities provided by the State Government such as Chief Ministers Safe Motherhood Scheme one of a kind in North east, Transit Home for High Risk pregnant women, and other schemes and cooperate in addressing the health issues and to improve the overall health scenario in the region. Moreover, emphasizing on the importance of health of a person, he said that health is most important and all the development that takes place in the region would be futile if the person cannot enjoy due to his or her health conditions and urged all to give priority to their personal health.

In his brief speech, MLA Gambegre and Chairman, Board of Directors MTDC Ltd Saleng A Sangma thanked the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma and Health Minister James P K Sangma for considering the proposal submitted for upgradation of PHC to CHC adding that though PHC is functioning in Kherapara it is difficult for referral and complicated cases since both Dalu and Tura is quite far and that sometimes distance can take away the precious lives of people. Taking into consideration the importance of healthcare especially women and pregnant women, he urged all the menfolk to take care of their wives especially during pregnancy since many women die during childbirth. Moreover, he also advised everyone to take the sick person immediately to hospital and not to wait for the person to get worse since many have lost their lives by reaching late to hospital adding that the sick person is taken to hospital when there is no hope.

During the function, the Nokma along with the people of the area also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Guest appraising their problems and requirements in the area. MDC and GHADC, High Powered Committee, Rakesh A Sangma, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe, Nokma of Kherapara, Arpin M Sangma, Additional District Medical & Health Officer, Dr. Jakrambal A Sangma, District MCH Officer, WGH Dr. Ivonne M Sangma were among others who spoke on the occasion. Joint Director, Dr. Lily Sengme Marak, Block Development Officer, Dalu C and RD Block, T Sangma, District Medical and Health Officer, WGH Tura Dr. Bijay Deb Barma, Ex MDC Jinbirth Goera Marak, Medical Officers and staff, Officials of different departments, Nokma, Sordar and people of the area attended the function.
