PRICE OF ESSENTIAL COMMODITIES

The Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Meghalaya, Shillong has informed that the following are the wholesale price (in quintals/bag/tin) and the retail price (in kg/litre) of essential commodities as on October 4, 2006.

The wholesale price of Rice is Rs. 1100/1120 (Common), Rs. 1180/1220 (Fine) and Rs. 1350/1700 (Packet Parimal) while the retail price per kg is Rs. 12.00 (Common), Rs. 12.50/Rs.13.00 (Fine) and Rs. 14.00/Rs. 18.00 (Packet Parimal). The wholesale price of Atta is Rs. 1160/1170 and Maida is Rs. 1310/1320 and the retail price per kg of Atta is Rs. 13.00/14.00 and Maida is Rs. 15.00/Rs.16.00. While the wholesale price of Gramdal is Rs. 3300/Rs. 3750, the retail price per kg is Rs. 35.00/40.00 per kg. For Turdal, the wholesale price is Rs. 2870/3000 (Ahar), Rs. 2450/Rs. 3000 (Masur) and Rs. 4000/4400 (Moong), and the retail price per kg is Rs. 31.00/Rs. 34.00 (Arhar), Rs. 26.00/Rs. 32.00 (Masur) and Rs. 42.00/Rs. 50.00 (Moong).The wholesale price of Urad (Whole) is Rs.4100/4400 and the retail price is Rs.44.00/46.00. The wholesale price of Urad Dal is Rs.4900/5200 and the retail price is Rs. 54.00/56.00. The wholesale price of Sugar is Rs. 1980/Rs. 2020 per quintal, the retail price is Rs. 21.50/Rs. 22.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Mustard Oil is Rs. 670/Rs. 700 per tin, the retail price is Rs. 57.00/Rs 72.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Vanaspati oil is Rs. 710/Rs. 850 per tin, the retail price is Rs. 54.00/Rs. 62.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Tea is Rs. 100/Rs. 150 (loose) and Rs. 130/Rs. 170 (packet), the retail price is Rs. 120.00/170.00 (loose) and Rs. 160.00/Rs. 196.00 (packed) per kg. The wholesale price of Potato is Rs. 650/Rs. 950 per bag, the retail price is Rs. 08.00/Rs. 12.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Onion is Rs. 700/Rs. 1050 per bag, the retail price is Rs. 08.00/Rs. 13.00 per kg. The wholesale price of Salt is Rs. 150/Rs. 190 (loose) and Rs. 160/Rs. 380 (packet), the retail price is Rs. 04.00/Rs. 05.00 per kg (loose) and Rs. 07.00/Rs. 09.00 (packet). The wholesale price of Gur is Rs. 1200/Rs. 1800, the retail price is Rs. 18.00/Rs 26.00 per kg and while the wholesale price of Milk (Toned milk) is Rs. 27.50 per litre, the retail price is Rs. 29.00 per litre.

ENTRANCE TEST FOR JNV NONGSTOIN

The Principal, J.N.V Nongstoin, has notified that the application forms for the entrance test of the session 2007 are available in the office of the Deputy Inspector of Schools, Block Education Officer, West Khasi Hills District and in the Office of the Principal J.N.V.

Last date for submission of the application forms is slated on October 31st, 2006. All the application forms should be submitted in the office of the Inspector of School, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF OLDER PERSONS, SENIOR CITIZEN OBSERVED AT NONGPOH

The International Day of Older Persons/Senior Citizens was observed yesterday, October 3, 2006 at Ri Bhoi District, wherein a free Medical Check-Up camp was organized by the Office of the Social Welfare Officer, Ri Bhoi District for the aged persons of the area at the Ri Bhoi Emporium. The chief guest of the celebration was Mr. E. Kharmalki, ADM.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kharmalki lauded the efforts of the District Social Welfare Officer for creating awareness on various schemes that can be availed from the Government for the benefit of the old and aged persons. Stating that the aged have a vital role to play in brining a change in the society through their advice and guidance, he urged upon them to take advantage of the schemes.

Others present on the day were Dr. R.L.Kyndiah, DM&HO while Mrs. G.B.Marak, DSWO presided over the meeting.

NOTIFICATION

In suppercession of a previous notification of the Department of Social Welfare dated 20.08.03, the Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Social Welfare Department has informed that Smti. C.D.Shira, Deputy SP/CID, Shillong has been appointed as Dowry Prohibition Officer with jurisdiction over the whole State of Meghalaya for a period of three years with effect from 21.08.2004.

The duties and functions of the Dowry Prohibition Officer are to see that the provision of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 are complied with, to prevent as far as possible, the taking or abetting of or the demanding of dowry, to collect such evidence as maybe necessary for the prosecution of persons committing offences under the Act and to perform such additional functions as may be assigned to her by the State Government, or as may be specified in the rules made under the Act.
