Press Release No. 188/23 GIRLS' HOSTEL INAUGURATED IN MAWKYRWAT The MLA of Mawkyrwat and Advisor, Government of Meghalaya, Social Welfare Department, Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar today inaugurated the Girls' Hostel located at Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, Shri. Tableland Lyngwa, IAS, and the Director of Social Welfare Department, Smt. C. D. Lyngwa, MCS. The Girls' Hostel was constructed under Article 275(1) of the Constitution of India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The amount sanctioned for the Girls' Hostel is Rs. 2.50 crore. Addressing as the Chief Guest of the function, Shri. Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Local MLA and Advisor, Government of Meghalaya, Social Welfare Department, said that the Social Welfare Department has provided best services for the welfare of the people of the district such as the establishment of the Girls' Hostel and Hope Orphanage and he also hoped that with the support of District Administration, a rehabilitation center for drug addicts will also be set up in the district in the near future. He extended his gratitude to the Presbyterian Church of Mawkyrwat for generously contributing the land for the construction of the Girls' Hostel building. He anticipated that the Hostel would offer a secure and convenient accommodation option, particularly for school students commuting from remote areas within the district. He also lauded the contractor for his hard work ensuring the speedy completion of the project. The MLA also stated that there are many more developmental projects which will be implemented by the government in the district, he emphasized the need for collaboration and support from village representatives, organizations, and volunteers and he called for collective efforts to work towards a common social cause. He also urged all officers from various departments in the district to commit themselves to their roles and duties and work with diligence for the overall development of the district. In his address, Shri. Tableland Lyngwa, the Deputy Commissioner of Mawkyrwat in the South West Khasi Hills District, emphasized that achieving development requires a collective endeavor involving the government and all stakeholders, including village representatives, NGOs, and Faith-based Organizations. He expressed gratitude to the MLA of Mawkyrwat for his dedicated efforts in initiating and ensuring successful completion of the project. Moreover, he underscores that the hostel would serve as a temporary residence for working women and students visiting the district for educational purposes or for other works and services. The Deputy Commissioner also conveyed that priority would be accorded to individuals hailing from remote areas within the district and within the state. Further, he informed that the Hostel will be handed over to the Presbyterian Church of Mawkyrwat to manage its operations and take care of getting basic things like furniture and other necessities. "It is important for people to enhance their mindset and work ethics to be able to performed their tasks efficiently and also to support one another and work together, to tackle the problems faced by the society today," he added. The Director of Social Welfare Department, Smt. C. D. Lyngwa, MCS, in her speech mentioned that Faith-based organizations have collaborated closely with the state government in implementing various initiatives and mission-mode programs aimed at assisting the marginalized sections of society. She also spoke about the Meghalaya Early Childhood Development Mission (MECDM), aiming at enhancing the Anganwadi centers and ensuring nutritional support through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Additionally, she informed about the Drug Reduction, Elimination, and Action Mission (DREAM), and Early Child Development Mission focusing on cognitive development. |
