Press Release No. 444/22 SAANS LAUNCH IN WEST JAINTIA HILLS Local MLA Shri. Wailadmiki launched the SAANS, The Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully campaign in the District at Panaliar Dorbar Shnong Community Hall, Jowai, on November 14, organised by the office of the District Medical & Health Officer, Jowai. SAANS is a campaign launched to ensure early detection and create awareness of Pneumonia targeting the age group of 0 to 5 years. Deputy Commissioner Shri. B.S Sohliya, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shri. M A Challam, Doctors from the office of the DM and HO, Jowai were also present. Launching the programme, Local MLA Shri. Waildmiki Shylla expressed his sincere gratitude towards the doctors and the health department for their remarkable efforts to organise the programme. He said that this kind of programme is very important for the mothers to be aware of the various symptoms of diseases that their child may contract with right from start of birth as in most cases it is seen that the children suffered malnutrition or vitamin deficiency due to their mothers being unaware of the necessity of a proper meal or diet for their child. He stressed the importance of a balanced diet for every child in order to be free from the risk of contracting any kind of diseases in future and every mother should be well informed about it. He also mentioned that it is sad to know that most of the local people are not aware of the various medical benefits of the state government and even if they knew they were still reluctant to avail the same. He urged the residents to co-operate and work in hand with the health department and the state government for any medical scheme related benefit or programme being organised. He expressed his expectations for a more public coverage of these kinds of awareness and urged the medical team and the health department of the District to make such arrangements for such programmes in the future. Deputy Commissioner, Shri. B.S Sohliya extend his best wishes to the doctor for the success of the programme. He also called for cooperation from the head of the localities including Rangbah Shnongs, NGOs, Seng kynthei, youths of various localities and villages to work hand in hand with the Health workers during this campaign in order to reduce the rate of child mortality in the District. Dr. E. War, Medical Superintendent, MCH Hospital, Panaliar, Jowai talk about the danger signs of Common childhood illness that every mother should be aware of. If parents noticed any signs such as if a child is not able to eat or breastfeed, vomiting every time, sudden weight loss, convulsion, lethargic, fever, they should take immediate action and approach the nearest health centre. Dr. Peter Daniel Khariong, Paediatric Surgeon, Woodland WK Hospital, Sabah Muswang, in his presentation spoke about the Surgical Childhood Conditions, showing the various cases taken in treating the children suffering from various diseases and advising the parents to take timely medication if such arises. Dr. Helen J. Uriah, District MCH Officer, West Jaintia Hills, Jowai express her concern over the risk of Pneumonia being contracted by the children below 5 years of age and said that pneumonia is one of the challenge face by health fraternity to combat the Child Mortality rate. She elaborated about the signs and symptoms of pneumonia and advised the parents if they identify any such signs like shortness of breath, coughing, fever or any in a child should seek immediate medical help. Dr. Helen also informed that the campaign has started from 12th November, 2022 and will continue till 28th February, 2023 |
Press Release No. 445/22 ADOKGRE BLOCK INAUGURATED Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the Adokgre C and RD block in North Garo Hills in presence of MLAs Rupert Momin and Pongseng Marak. Adokgre block has been carved out of Kharkutta C and RD block, one of the oldest block in the State, which covers 178 villages. The new block will cater to 43 villages in the area, which has a population of about 10,000 households. Inaugurating the newly created block, the Chief Minister said, PA Sangma had a close affinity with the people of Adokgre. He used to tell me about his plans to better the lives of the people. He had envisioned a better future for our people. I am happy to fulfil one of the long pending demands of Adokgre. The creation of this new block will enable the people to reap the benefits of the Government in a fast and efficient manner. The Chief Minister told the gathering that since 2018, the Government has been working towards creating better infrastructure facilities for its people with a priority to ensure better rural connectivity across the State. We have laid importance on improving road connectivity in rural areas and have initiated several projects across the State. The Adokgre to Mangsang road in this area is an example of this Government commitment. The progress of work is in advance stage and it will be completed soon, the Chief Minister added. Speaking at length on his late father and former Speaker of Lok Sabha and Chief Minister P. A. Sangma, the Chief Minister said, one of his dream was to have a stadium for Adokgre, I am happy that the Chenanggre Stadium in Adokgre is in advance stage and will be completed soon. He also told the gathering that the government is bringing administration and governance closer to the people by establishing new C and RD blocks and Sub Division. We are taking administration closer to the people. Public faces numerous challenges and hardships. We are here to provide the necessary services through the C and RD blocks across the State, he added. During his visit to Adokgre, the Chief Minister also inaugurated the temporary office of the new block. The Chief Minister also distributed Focus plus card at Adokgre today and told the gathering that cash benefit transfer for the beneficiaries will be done in two installments Rs. 1000 during registration and Rs. 4000 as second instalment. The Chief Minister informed that the Government will be hosting a mega event to formally distribute the second instalment, wherein lakhs of farmers will receive the cash benefit from the government. |
