Press Release No. 734/18 FOUNDATION STONE LAID FOR JUVENILE SCHOOL The Chief Justice, High Court of Meghalaya, Hon’ble Mr Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, today laid the foundation stone of the Shillong Juvenile School at Mawkasiang (Mawdiangdiang), New Shillong. The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice S R Sen, in-charge Juvenile Justice Committee, Meghalaya, Additional Secretary, Social Welfare, Shri. H Marwein, Commissioner & Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Shri. T Dkhar, Director Social Welfare, Shri. E Kharmalki, Senior Advocate, senior officials of the High Court of Meghalaya and inmates of Juvenile Home. Spread over 25,000 sq.ft of land, the construction cost of the Juvenile School is estimated at Rs. 5 crores approximately. The School will have classes from Class 1 to Class 10. Mr. Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir, in his speech, said that education is one of the primary rehabilitative services that must be provided to children staying in juvenile homes. The school will help mainstreaming the children through observation, education and vocational training as incorporated in the Juvenile Justice Act, he said. He said that with the proper support and care these children can return to society as bright future of the state and country. He hoped that the school will cater not only to the educational needs of these young kids but also develop them into good human beings. Press Release No. 735/18 CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL 2018 CONCLUDES The India International Cherry Blossom Festival, 2018 organized by the Forest & Environment Department, Government of Meghalaya and Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (ISBD), Government of India in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Government of India which got underway on the 14th of November, 2018 concluded today here at 5th Ground, Polo, Shillong. The closing ceremony was graced by Forest & Environment Minister, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering at the closing ceremony, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui said that the festival not only showcased the timely blossoming of the cherry tree in the State but also gave an opportunity for the State and the whole of North Eastern region to display its rich cultural heritage. Stating that festivals are a way of connecting the region to other parts of the country and abroad, Shri Rymbui said that the festival also created an opportunity for cultural exchange between Japan and the North Eastern region. The programme was also attended by PCCF & HoFF, Meghalaya, Shri C.P. Marak, Regional Director, ICCR, Shillong, Shri N. Munish Singh and representatives from the Embassy of Japan in India among others. During the programme, the Chief Guest handed over the certificates to the winners of Drawing & Painting and Japanese Cosplay competitions. |
