FOUNDATION STONE FOR CONSTRUCTION OF ROAD INAUGURATED

The foundation stone for construction of a PWD Road at Mawlai Umjaiur (Mawthohrew), Shillong, was inaugurated today by the Co-Chairman, State Planning Board, Mr. P.T. Sawkmie, who is also the local MLA. The Guest of Honour on the occasion was Mr. B.W. Phira, Executive Engineer, PWD (Rds), Central Division, Shillong. Also present at the inaugural function were the Sub-Divisional Officer, PHE (Investigation), Mr. S. Lyngdoh, Sub-Divisional Officer, PWD (Rds), Mr. S. Kharmudai, members of the Dorbar Shnong and the public.

Speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. Sawkmie said that the construction of the 300 metres PWD Road, including metalling and black topping, which is going to start soon, has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 12 lakhs. This he said, will generate employment to the local contractors and labourers. “If schemes are implemented in the area, it assures direct employment to the locals”, he said, and therefore urged upon the members of the Dorbar Shnong and the public at large to cooperate with him and that they should approach the Government Departments to get first hand information on various schemes available for the all round development of the locality and the constituency as a whole.

Mr. Sawkmie also informed the public that with his determination and hard work in bringing an all round development in the area, schemes worth more than Rs. 1 crore has been implemented in the constituency such as electricity, drinking water supply and road connection. He also informed that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) has spent at least Rs. 1.50 crores for renovation of water pipes and construction of water reservoir in the area, and this has ease the burden of the public to carry drinking water from far away places. Mr. Sawkmie assured the public that he will continue to work for the betterment of the people of the constituency and the State as a whole and therefore, sought the cooperation of the Dorbar Shnong and the public.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Mr. B.W. Phira, Mr. S. Lyngdoh, Mr. K. Khyriem, local Headman and Mr. L. Lyngdoh, Ex-Headman. The function was chaired by Mr. W. Kharbudon, General Secretary Dorbar Shnong and the vote of thanks was offered by Mr. A. Syiem, President, Seng Samla Umjaiur.

PERSONAL INTERVIEW FOR EXCISE CONSTABLES

The Assistant Commissioner of Excise, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong has informed that the personal interview for the post of Excise Constables for candidates in East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi Districts will be held on December 11, 2004 from 9.00 AM onwards in the office chamber of the Commissioner of Excise, Meghalaya, Shillong.

List of candidates selected in physical test can be seen in the notice board of the office of the Commissioner of Excise and the office of the Deputy Commissioner ( Excise Branch), East Khasi Hills District during office hours after November 25, 2004. Successful candidate are directed to report in Room No. 215 of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills, Shillong along with original identity cards and certificates/marksheets for further necessary action.

DIENGIEI AREA FARMERS EXPRESSED WILLINGNESS FOR REGULATED MARKET

A public meeting was held on November 13, 2004, at Mawlaiteng village organised by Diengiei Area Durbar Committee. A big crowd comprising mostly of farmers from different villages of the area, namely, Mawlaiteng, Mawmih, Mawlaingut, Krang, Kreit, Lawmei, Nongpathaw, Nongmadan and other adjoining villages of the area attended the meeting. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Meghalaya Minister for Home (Police), Agriculture and GAD, Mr. H.D.R. Lyngdoh, who is also the local MLA of the area. The meeting was presided over by Mr. K. Nongbsap, President, Diengiei Area Durbar Committee.

In the meeting, the major problems faced by the people of the area were highlighted. Besides, the discussion regarding the Mawiong Regulated Market, which was of economic importance to the farmers, was also discussed. In an open discussion held, a majority of the farmers expressed their contentment about the Regulated Market after obtaining clarifications to their queries and expressed their happiness about the various advantages of the Mawiong Regulated Market especially with regards to the Support Price Benefits, Infrastructural facilities, malpractice-free market and other facilities which is now lacking in the present Iewduh market. The farmers expressed their willingness and readiness to begin their transactions in the Mawiong Regulated Market.

Mr. Lyngdoh, speaking in the meeting, informed that two other such Regulated Market will be set up at Laitkor and Upper Shillong for the betterment of the farmers.
