BLOCK LEVEL LIVESTOCK MELA AT MAWSYNRAM

Shri H. M. Shangpliang, Mawsynram MLA today inaugurated the one day Block Level Livestock Mela organized by the office of the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, East Khasi Hills at Mawsynram. The programme was also attended by Smti E. Warjri, BDO, Mawsynram C&RD Block, Dr. W. Ryngkhlem, Joint Director A. H.& Veterinary Officer, Dr. (Mrs) A. Laloo, District AH & Vety. Officer, Dr. R. K. Marbaniang, AH & Veterinary Officer, Mawsynram C&RD Block and farmers from villages under Mawsynram C&RD Block. In his inaugural speech, Shri Shangpliang said that the awareness programme was organised under the Livestock Mission which aimed at creating livelihood opportunities for the rural farmers and also provides employment avenues through livestock and poultry rearing. Shri Shangpliang said the objectives of the National Livestock Mission is to enhance productivity, entrepreneurship development and employment generation besides strengthening of infrastructure and capacity building of all stake holders Shri Shangpliang said that such awareness programmes are valuable platform for the farmers to learn and improve their farming skills. He also urged the farmers to make use of the knowledge imparted to them and work in close coordination with the departmental officers so as to help in increasing of livestock and poultry production. During the programme, the Chief Guest also distributed Awards to outstanding farmers from Mawsynram C&RD Block. The Programme was followed by the interactive and discussion session. Stalls were also put up by the various Block Offices like Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries and local entrepreneurs for display and sale of dairy products at the Mela.
