ULTIMATUM FOR EPIC

The Sub-Divisional Officer (Elections), Mawkyrwat Civil Sub-Division, Mawkyrwat has informed that under Section 22 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and as per the instruction issued by the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, Shillong he will delete all the names of those voters who did not get themselves photographed during the previous campaigns of the EPIC. However, before deletion individual notice will be issued to all to comply and to get themselves photographed by 10th December, 2006, in his office failing which deletion will be done without further notice.

COMMITTEE OF HEADMEN FORMED

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills, Nongstoin has informed that in a meeting held today in the Conference Hall of his office, a committee called “Ka Synjuk Ki Rangbah Shnong Nongstoin Town Area” was formed in which all the Headmen within Nongstoin Town were made members of the Committee. The committee selected the Syiem of Nongstoin as the Convener. The committee was formed with a view to solve the impending issues relating to peace and development in the town area. The committee will have its first sitting on 01st December, 2006.

APPROACH ROAD TOWARDS NONGKHNUM IMPROVED

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has informed that the approach road towards the famous Nongkhnum river island in West Khasi Hills District is now easier as the road has been taken up by the PWD Department under PMGSY and is in a final stage of completion. The road is accessible by vehicles like Tata Sumos, Jeeps, Gypsies etc till the river island. It is expected that by the first week of January 2007 big vehicles too can ply on the road.

With the completion of the PMGSY road the tourist now need to trek for about five minutes to reach the spot and need to wade through a small shallow stream to reach the beach. The existing approach road to the river island is from the ending at Weinia Falls and thereof the tourists have to trek for about an hour to reach the spot where the Kynshi river bifurcates to form an island. Tourists now have alternative routes for trekking, one which begins from the river island towards Weinia and vice-versa.

The view along the PMGSY road towards the spot is more scenic than the view along the road towards Weinia Falls.

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, who strongly emphasize on the need for the urgent completion of the road lauded the Public Works Department for the speedy and timely construction of the road.
