PASTING OF POSTERS ON PUBLIC PROPERTIES BANNED

Shillong, November 28, 2011: The District Magistrate, West Garo Hills has promulgated an Order under Section 144 Cr.PC in the entire District prohibiting the use of public properties, government buildings, walls, etc for pasting of posters, writings and graffiti.

The order was enforced in view of the fact that some organizations is using public properties, government buildings/walls, etc, for pasting posters without the knowledge or prior permission of the owner/authorities concerned whenever they called for agitations and in doing so, the walls are damaged and become unpleasant and repulsive in appearance.

This order comes into immediate effect and shall remain in force until further orders.

PROBE ORDERED

Shillong, November 28, 2011: The District Magistrate, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has ordered a Magisterial Enquiry into an usual phenomena of the River Lukha and dying of fishes under Khliehriat Civil Sub- Division.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that Smti. D. Phawa, Extra Assistant Commissioner, Khliehriat Sub- Division has been appointed as the Enquiry Officer and the Superintendent of Fisheries and Divisional Mining Officer, Jaintia Hills District shall assist the Enquiry Officer along with the State Pollution Control Board, Meghalaya, Shillong to ascertain the cause and circumstances of the phenomena in the River.

DUMPING OF FLY ASH ALONG THE NH-44 PPROHIBITED

Shillong, November 28, 2011: In concern to the public health of the people residing along the NH-44 and to protect the source of water from Pynthor Nein, the District Magistrate, Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has promulgated an Order under Section 144Cr.P.C prohibiting truckers plying along the Highway heading to the cement factories in Khliehriat Sub-Division to dump Industrial waste known as Fly Ash or any type of Polluted Wastes in the areas of Pynthor Nein and along the NH-44.

TRAINING ON BAMBOO PRODUCTS HELD

Shillong, November 28, 2011: A Five Day Training of field functionaries, farmers and entrepreneurs on cultivation, management, utilization and value addition to Bamboo and Bamboo products was inaugurated today by the Meghalaya Forest and Environment Minister, Mr. P. Tynsong at Interpretation Centre, Lady Hydari Park, Shillong. The training was organized by the Department of Forest and Environment, Government of Meghalaya under the National Bamboo Mission.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tynsong said that utilization of Bamboo products is very essential in the present situation to save forest and to use bamboo as an alternative to timber wherever feasible. He hoped that this five day training programme will help in sharing various information and knowledge about the potential and use of bamboo and its products.

The technical session for the five day training includes Overview of Bamboo Sector, Cultivation, Harvesting and Utilization of Bamboo, Value Addition to Bamboo products, Marketing, Legal and Policy issues related to Bamboo and Bamboo Products.

The inaugural function of the training was presided over by Mr. P.B.O. Warjri, Additional Chief Secretary while Mr. V. K. Nautiyal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest delivered the welcome address and Mr T. C. Marak, PCCF (Territorial) proposed the vote of thanks.

VETERINARY DISPENSARY INAUGURATED

Shillong, November 28, 2011: A Dispensary of the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department at Jashiar was inaugurated on 25 November, 2011by the Deputy Chief Minister, Mr. B. M. Lanong in presence of Mr. Rowell Lyngdoh, Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the local MLA, Dr. L. Lyngwa, Director AH & Vety. Mr. N. Syiemiong, Syiem of Maharam Syiemship.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lanong hoped that with the inauguration of this Veterinary Dispensary it would serve the need of the rural people for accessing better health care facility for their domestic animals. He therefore, called upon the people of the area to take up livestock farming in a large scale to meet the demand of meat consumption in the State. He also appealed to the villager to extend their cooperation in making government plans and schemes successful for the benefit of people at large.

SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME FOR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES

Shillong, November 28, 2011: The Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), East Khasi Hills District has informed that the DDMA will organize a one day Sensitization Programme for Elected Representatives on Integration of Urban Risk Management and Disaster Risk Reduction Element in Development Plan on 1st December, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Pinewood Hotel, Shillong. The programme will be inaugurated by Dr. Mukul Sangma, Chief Minister and is expected to be attended by all the MLAs and MDCs of the East Khasi Hills District.

It may be mentioned that the is sensitization programme was organized with a view to mitigate and minimize the impact of disasters with particular reference to Meghalaya which lies on zone 5 of the seismic zone, an Urban Risk Reduction (URR) Project of the Government of India and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has been implemented at the city level with the aim to reduce the impact and facilitate effective response in case of any emergency.

The DDMA, East Khasi Hills District has been conducting mock drills, sensitization programmes, training and capacity building to different stake holders at all levels in different parts of the district.

STATE DAY OBSERVED DURING IITF-2011 AT NEW DELHI

Shillong, November 28, 2011: : - The 31st India International Trade Fair- 2011, a fortnight long programme organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi began from 14th November, 2011. Government of Meghalaya through various Departments and different units of entrepreneurs from the State participated in the Fair.

To showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state during the Fair, Meghalaya observed the State Day on the 27th November, 2011 at Lal Chowk Theatre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi by organizing cultural programme during the celebration. The Information & Public Relations Minister of Meghalaya, Shri A T Mondal graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in presence of Dr P Shakil Ahammed, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of Information & Public Relations, distinguished Guests, invitees, various Government officials from different Departments of the state and many others.

While speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Shri A T Mondal said that the main objective of organizing the Cultural Programme during India International Trade Fair at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi is to showcase the rich Culture and talent of the different tribes of the State, adding that the Fair is the right platform where people from all walks of life and from across the country are witnessing and enjoying the show. He also called upon them to visit Meghalaya which is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations of the country.

During the celebration, wangala dance, harvest dance, sword dance, Rwa dance, plate dance plate dance, khasi orchestra and songs was performed by the cultural troupes from Meghalaya.
