FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO VOLUNTARY AGENCIES AND NGO

The Officer-on-Special Duty, Planning Department, Government of Meghalaya has informed that proposals are invited from Voluntary Agencies (Vas)/ Non Governmental Organisation (NGOs) for consideration of providing financial assistance from the voluntary Action fund (VAF) of Planning Department, government of Meghalaya during 2006-2007 in accordance with the approved guidelines.

Assistance under this scheme for the year 2006-2007 shall include only the following activities (1) Short term trainings (2) Short term seminars/workshops. The financial assistance to be sanctioned to the individual Vas/NGOs will depend on the merit and nature of the scheme. The proposals of Vas/NGOs shall initially be scrutinized by the respective District Vigilance/Monitoring Committees and decision of the Empowered Committee in the planning department will be final.

The guidelines and formats for submission of proposals can be obtained from the offices of the District Planning Officers in all Districts.

Interested Vas/NGOs are to submit their proposals, along with the details of the schemes and relevant documents, to the concerned District Planning Officer, office of the Deputy Commissioner concerned on or before the 20th December, 2006 so as to enable the respective District Planning Officers of each District to forward the proposals to the Voluntary Action Unit of Planning Department.

No proposals will be entertained after the fixed date mentioned above.

IMPLEMENTATION OF HIGH SECURITY REGISTRATION PLATE

The Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Transport Department has informed that the Order dated 18.10.2006 issued by the Government for keeping the implementation of the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) in abeyance has been stayed by the Honorable Guwahati High Court by its Judgement and Order dated 27.10.2006 in Misc Case No.343 (SH) of 2006, arising out of Writ Petition No.294 (SH) of 2006. The aforesaid Government Order has therefore become inoperative. Hence the implementation of the HSRP will have to be continued as notified earlier.

The Commissioner of Transport and all the District Transport Officers have been instructed accordingly.

EPIC IN RI BHOI DISTRICT

The Deputy Commissioner (Election), Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh is informing all the voters of 8-Mawhati, 9-Umroi, 10-Nongpoh and 11-Jirang Assembly Constituencies whose names were in the Electoral Roll, 2006 but who did not get themselves photographed for EPIC during this year to get themselves photographed in the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Election) on all working days till December 15, 2006.

The names of those voters who fail to get themselves photographed during these period will be deleted from the Electoral Roll, 2006 as per the instruction of the Election Commission.

JEEVAN RAKSHA AWARDS

The Government of India will announce the Jeevan Raksha series of awards which is given for meritorious acts of humane nature in saving the life of a persons from drowning, in accident cases, fire incidents, electrocution, land slides, animal attack and rescue operation in mines etc.

The award consist of Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Pradak awarded for conspicuous courage in saving life under circumstances of every great danger to the life of the rescuer, Uttam Jeevan Raksha Pradak awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of greater danger to the life of the rescuer and Jeevan Raksha Pradak which is awarded for courage and promptitude in saving life under circumstances of grave bodily injury to the rescuer.

Persons of either sex are eligible for these awards. Members of the Armed Forces, Police Forces and of a recognized Fire Service etc. are eligible for these awards provided the life saving act is performed by them otherwise than in the course of duty. The award can also be conferred posthumously.

Intending individuals from East Khasi Hills District who desire their names to be recommended to the Government for the Award are required to send their nominations to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong on or before February 15, 2006.
