GOVERNOR INDUCTED AS THE CHIEF PATRON OF THE MEGHALAYA BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES

Governor of Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh, Brig. Dr. B D Mishra (Retd) was today inducted as the Chief Patron of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides in a ceremony held at the Headquarters of the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides at Pine Mount Ridge, Shillong.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor lauded the service rendered by the Bharat Scouts and Guides across all territories and dominions of the Indian Union, since its inception 72 years ago. Extending his greetings on the 73 rd Foundation Day of the Bharat Scouts and Guides and the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Meghalaya Chapter of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, he congratulated the 50 Scouts and Guides Awardees of the Prestigious Governor Award and urged them continue with their good initiatives and work hard towards building a better tomorrow.

Pointing out that importance of inculcating the habit of service to humanity, the Governor urged the Bharat Scouts and Guides to live up to the ideals of the Bharat Scouts and Guides Movement and work for the betterment of the society and the Nation as a whole. Adding that the ideals cultivated at a young age will stay with them forever, the Governor stressed on the importance of humanism and selfless service to others. Citing the example of the Honourable Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s leadership during the Covid pandemic, he stressed on the need for the youth to be aware of their roles and responsibilities.

On the occasion the Governor presented Rajya Puraskars to 50 Scouts and Guides and 2 rangers for having undergone training and successfully completing it. The Rajya Puraskar is the highest award that a Scout and Guide can achieve at the state level. On the day the Governor also released the Foundation Flag, the sale proceeds of which will be sent to the National Headquarters of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, to be utilised for the needy all over the country.

MEGHALAYA HEALTH MINISTER, JAMES PK SANGMA FLAGS OFF AMBULANCE FOR DADENGGRE CHC

Meghalaya Health Minister, James PK Sangma, flagged off the ambulance donated by the Hans Foundation to Dadenggre Community Health Centre at Dadenggre in the presence of Dadenggre Sub Divisional Officer (Civil), Vibhor Aggarwal, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Pankaj Kumar Rasgania, Dadenggre BDO, Cheman D Shira, Additional DM and HO, Jakrambal A Sangma, the local leaders, Nokmas and prominent citizens on 8 November.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that ambulances are very important part of medical institutions without which the doctors, nurses and other health workers are helpless. Dadenggre was without ambulance for many years but the health department worked very hard to provide the requirement. He expressed gratefulness to Hans Foundation which has donated one ambulance with Advance Life Support facilities to Dadenggre. Saying that there are challenges in the health sector, he also sought cooperation and support from the people of the region.

Later, during the day, the minister also inaugurated the youth centre under the CMYC at Dadenggre Puri Govt. Higher Secondary School.

CM CONRAD SANGMA INAUGURATES SIJU C AND RD BLOCK

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Tuesday inaugurated the new Siju C and RD block in South Garo Hills fulfilling the long cherished dreams of the people. Dedicating the C and RD block to the people of Siju, the Chief Minister said that establishment of the block in Siju is a befitting tribute to Captain Williamson A. Sangma, the founding Chief Minister of Meghalaya, who hailed from Siju. Captain Sangma had great love and concern for the tribal hill people, who led the movement for the creation of a State we can proudly call home. Today, we are celebrating the golden jubilee of our State and it is a historic and apt occasion that we are establishing the Siju C and RD block in its native place, the Chief Minister said.

Stating that in 50 years much could have been achieved but due to circumstances Meghalaya still lags behind compared to other States, he said, we have to envision a plan for the next 50 years and work accordingly to ensure that while we celebrate 100 years of Statehood we have a progressive State with equal opportunities for our people. It is imperative that we lay down the vision and roadmap to see the Meghalaya we want in the next 50 years, he added.

A crowd of over 3000 people attended the historic moment at Siju, while Chief Minister accompanied by Deputy Speaker of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Timothy D Shira, MLAs Rakkam Sangma, Marcuise Marak, Jim Sangma, Rupert Momin and Chief Executive Member of Garo Hills Autonomous District Council unveiled the plaque that marked the establishment of new C and RD block. The dignitaries also visited the temporary block office at Siju. The construction of the new C and RD block building will start soon.

The Chief Minister further said that the MDA Government is committed to ensure overall growth in the State and the creation of the new Siju block will go a long way in ensuring better implementation of different schemes and programmes. He also said that his Government has laid overall focus for ensuring economic prosperity of the people and has launched several initiatives. He said that Focus and Focus plus, the biggest welfare programme for the farmers will continue for the next 10 years to ensure financial stability amongst the farming communities.

During his visit to Siju, he also handed over FOCUS plus cards to the beneficiaries and handed over cheques to women led SHGs an amount of Rs 28 Lakhs under the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society MSRLS. He also distributed piglets under the Rural Backyard Piggery and Poultry scheme PROGRESS, 1392 piglets were distributed to 348 farmers and 2500 kuroiler birds were distributed to 50 poultry farmers. For youth development programs to be carried forward by youth organisations to Siju, funds of Rs 1 Lakh was distributed through YESS Meghalaya program.

He also inaugurated the Collective Marketing Centre of the Gangga Awe IVCS in Siju funded under the Meghalaya Livelihood Access to Market Project. This is one of the best performing IVCS in the State. He also inaugurated the Cold Storage Unit provisioned to them. This will aid the farmers to save their perishable produce and prevent wastage and losses.
