Press Release No. 743/04 SCHOOL BUILDING INAUGURATED AT UMTARLEN The new School building of the L P School, Umtarlen, constructed by the Office of the Block Development Officer, Umling under SGRY-I at the cost of Rs. 1 lakh, was inaugurated by Mr. P W Muktieh, Deputy Speaker, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on November 4, 2004. Speaking at the inaugural session, Mr. Muktieh expressed his happiness to inaugurate the School building after three years of the laying of the foundation stone. He also hoped that the building would serve the children of the village with knowledge and aspiration so that one day they could become leaders and stars that shine in the area. He also informed that with the implementation of the SSA scheme through the Education Department many schools would be benefitted, adding that unless the schools are well performed and fulfilled all the norms laid by the government they would not be able to avail the scheme. He therefore urged upon the Managing Committee, teachers and parents to work together for the progress of the school and well being of the students. Mr. Muktieh further informed that around 450 families of the Mawhati Constituency would be provided with CGI sheets and about 15 women organization would be supplied with utensils through his scheme and that would be done by December next. Others who spoke on the occasion were the headmen of Mawlong, Assistant Inspector of Schools, Mr. M.H. Thabah. Meanwhile, Mr. Muktieh also inaugurated a footpath at Pahamding and a Cultural Club’s Hall at Pahampdem on November 6, 2004, constructed by the office of the Block Development Officer, Umling C&RD Block under SGRY. |
Press Release No. 744/04 FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED The Football Tournament, organised by the Madan Lakhiat Sports Club, ended on November 6, 2004, with a final match played at Madan Lakhiat playground, where Umrit Sports Club defeated Mawsiatkhnam Sports Club 2-1. The local MLA and Parliamentary Secretary of Power, Mr. S.W. Rymbai was the Chief Guest on the occasion. While delivering his speech at the concluding function, Mr. Rymbai urged upon the local youth not to be complacent playing in their own locality but to aim high and continue practicing so that they could represent their District and the State in larger tournaments. The tournament ended with the prize distribution to the finalists and the third place. |
