PUBLICATION OF ELECTORAL ROLL

Shillong, November 9, 2010: The Electoral Registration Officer of 44-Raksamgre (ST), 45-Tikrikilla (ST), 49-Dadenggre (ST) has informed that the Photo Electoral Rolls has been prepared in accordance with the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, and a copy is available for inspection at the office of the Electoral Registration Officer and Block Development Office during office hours.

The qualifying date for the preparation of the electoral rolls is 1st January, 2011. If there is any claim for inclusion of a name in the roll or any objection to the inclusion of name or any objection to particulars in any entry, it should be lodged on or before the 23rd November 2010 in Form 6, 7, 8 or 8A as may be appropriate.

Any such claim or objection should either be presented to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or to the Block Development Offices Dadenggiri and Tikrikilla or sent by post not later than the aforesaid date.

CM TO LAY FOUNDATION STONE FOR NEW LCS

Shillong, November 9, 2010: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Dr. Mukul Sangma, will be laying the Foundation Stone for the New Land Custom Station (LCS) at Ghasuapara, South Garo Hills District on November 15, 2010 at 11:30 AM. This was informed by the Director of Commerce & Industries, Meghalaya, Shillong.

LEGAL LITERACY CAMPAIGN HELD

Shillong, November 9, 2010: As part of the National Legal Services Day celebration, the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) organized a Legal Literacy Campaign today, the 9th November, 2010 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Court Complex, Tura, West Garo Hills District.

It may be mentioned that the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) was constituted under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 to provide free legal services to the weaker sections of the society and to organize Lok Adalats for amicable settlement of disputes. And to give effect to the policies and directions of the NALSA and to give free legal services to the people and conduct Lok Adalat in every State, the State Legal Services Authority was constituted.

Mr. Sanjay Goyal, Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills in his address to the gathering informed that the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 was passed with the sole objective of fulfilling one of the Directive Principles of the State Policy enunciated in Article 39A of the Constitution of India. Under it, the State is constitutionally commanded to secure the operation of the legal system, promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity and shall provide free legal aid, by suitable legislation or schemes or in any other way, to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disabilities, he said adding that the Act makes provision for giving free legal services to various categories including persons who is a member of the Scheduled Caste of Scheduled Tribe, a victim of trafficking in human beings or beggars as referred to in Article 23 of the Constitution, a woman or a child, a person with disability or an industrial workman.

The Legal Literacy Campaign deliberated and shed light on subjects ranging from Consumer Affairs, MACT Cases, FIR/Bail to GR and CR etc. The campaign was attended by Tura Law College students, school students and people from various walks of life. Among other administrative officers present at the gathering were Mr. R S Sangma, Additional District Magistrate, Tura, Mrs. H B Sangma, DC, Election, Mrs. M S N Marak, Additional District Magistrate, Tura and Mr. J Lakiang, EAC, Tura. The resource persons at the literacy campaign were Mr. J K Sharma, Senior Advocate, Mr. R B Chetry, Senior Advocate, Mr. J R Marak, Advocate and President, Bar Association, Tura, Mr. D Tulshyan, Advocate, Mrs. J Chetry, GP/PP and Mr. T M Sangma APP.

VANCOUVER SHULLAI AND FERRANDO SPEECH AND HEARING CENTRE TO RECEIVE AWARD

Shillong, November 9, 2010: Master Vancouver Gracias L Shullai has been selected for the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement for the year 2010 for his excellence in the field of “Ability in Singing”. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.00, a silver medal and a certificate. Likewise, Ferrando Speech and Hearing Centre, Umniuh Khwan, Ri Bhoi District has also been selected for the National Child Award for Best Institution working in the field of Child Welfare, where Sr. Merly Tom Kizhakayil, MSMHC, Director of the Institute will receive the award on its behalf. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000.00, a citation and a certificate.

Both the awards will be presented by the President of India at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on November 14, 2010 on the occasion of Children’s Day.

It may be mentioned that the awards were recommended by the Social Welfare Department, Government of Meghalaya to the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.

CENTENARY CELEBRATION OF WORLD GUIDING

Shillong, November 9, 2010: Along with the rest of the world, the Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides will be celebrating the Centenary of World Guiding on November 11, 2010 at the State Headquarter Campus of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. Dr. D D Lapang, Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest while Mr. P J Bazeley (retd) IAS and former President of the MBSG will be the Guest of Honour. The programme will include presentation of awards to stalwarts of the MBSG, commissioners, unit leaders and the Scouts/Guides State Awards and releasing of the Centenary Souvenir.

Simultaneously, the birth anniversary of centurion, Miss Silverine Swer, the Stalwart of the Movement will also be celebrated on the same day by the MBSG.
