Press Release No. 295/21 MEGHALAYA BHARAT SCOUTS AND GUIDES OBSERVED 71ST FOUNDATION DAY The Meghalaya Bharat Scouts & Guides observed the 71st Foundation Day and Flag Day on the 9th November, 2021 at a programme held at the State Headquarters, MBSG, Shillong. Meghalaya Chief Electoral Officer and Vice President of MBSG, Shri F R Kharkongor graced the occasion as Chief Guest. During the programme Shri P. Ryngksai was inducted as the new state treasurer of the MBSG. Speaking on the occasion Shri F R Kharkongor congratulated all the awardees and mentors who have played a major role in motivating, inspiring and shaping the young Scouts and Guides and in moving forward despite many challenges. He stated that the event is very significant especially with the onslaught of Covid-19 pandemic in the last 2 years where students have faced a lot of uncertainties, besides putting on hold several programmes of the movement including social – mobilisation of students, camps and jamborees. He added that it is a joyous moment to celebrate the day in a befitting manner. He also stressed on the need for digital units in the form of online modes/platforms in which the young Scouts and Guides can bond and interact with each other for a sufficient development. Shri Kharkongor urged this robust, dynamic and vibrant youth organisation to take active part in the celebration of the 50 years of statehood and also in the celebration of 75 years of India’s independence. During the day the Chief Guest handed over the Rajya Puraskar Certificates to 20 Guides, 7 Rangers, 6 Scouts and 3 Rovers. Meritorious awards and Achievements to Adult Leaders were also presented. |
Press Release No. 303/21 LEGAL SERVICES DAY OBSERVED In observance of Legal Services Day, the District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills District in collaboration with Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority organised an awareness programme on the topic “Pro Bono Legal Services” today at the High Court Bar Association, Shillong. The programme was chaired by Shri. N. A. Khan, MHJS, District and Sessions Judge, East Khasi Hills District who addressed the gathering on the topic “Pro Bono Legal Services”. He shared insights on the Advocates Act, 1961 and the Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 while emphasising the role of advocates with Administration of Justice. Sr. Advocate S. Chakravarty and Sr. Advocate A. Paul while speaking on the topic, drew from their experiences as advocates and encouraged the participants to hone their skills to the best of their ability and to work with honesty and diligence. Present in the programme were Ms. D. Sohtun, MJS, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, East Khasi Hills District, Advocate Kishore C. Gautam, Secretary, High Court Bar Association. Advocates of the High Court Bar Association and the Shillong Bar Association attended the programme along with students from Department of Law, NEHU and Shillong Law College. |
