GOVERNOR ATTENDS CULTURAL EVENING

Raj Bhavan Meghalaya, today witnessed a spectacular display of the rich cultural heritage of India as Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Island, Chandigarh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry celebrated their Foundation Day in a programme held at the Durbar Hall.

To mark the occasion a cultural evening was organized wherein the Governor of Meghalaya, Shri Phagu Chauhan graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The cultural evening witnessed enthusiastic performances showcasing the rich cultural traditions of the States and Union Territories.

Earlier in his welcome address, Dr. B D R Tiwari, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor of Meghalaya, spoke at length about the uniqueness of each State and Union Territories and also pointed out the immense contributions made by them in the growth and progress of the nation.

In line with the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat programme of the Government of India, the Foundation Day of the of different states/UTs are celebrated in Raj Bhavans across the country in an effort to enhance interaction and promote mutual understanding between people.

The programme was organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) Shillong in collaboration with the Department of Arts and Culture, Government of Meghalaya.

FOOD, CIVIL SUPPLIES AND CONSUMER AFFAIRS MEETING HELD

Shri Comingone Ymbon, Minister, I/c of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, today held a meeting today with key officials of Food Corporation of India (FCI) and Supply Officials from Districts and Subdivisions. The purpose of the meeting was to review and streamline the lifting of PDS foodgrains in the State. The meeting was also attended by Shri P. Bakshi, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, including DC of East Khasi Hills and Subdivisional Officer of Pynursla.

The Minister also reviewed the progress of lifting of foodgrains from FCI Godown, Mawlai and FCI Godown, Sohryngkham so as to streamline the overall delivery mechanism in the State. Route optimisation efforts were discussed for reducing the distance between FCI godowns to Fair Price Shops. The exercise is to achieve efficiency and reduce carbon footprint.

The Minister mentioned that such review meetings are necessary since the initiatives undertaken by the Department would go a long way to ensure that foodgrains reach the beneficiaries in the least amount of time so as to achieve food security in the State.
