DISCOVER NORTH EAST- MEGHALAYA HELD

Discover North East – Meghalaya 2017 was held at Jengjal Government Secondary School (RMSA) Jengjal, West Garo Hills yesterday where Dr. Milton Sangma, Retired Pro-Vice Chancellor, North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Tura Campus graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The programme is organised by the Ministry of Culture Government of India in collaboration with the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Meghalaya and North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC). Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest Dr. Milton Sangma said that this programme helps to experience and witness various culture and traditions showcase by the folk dance troupes from different states of India. Moreover, he urged the students to acquire knowledge as well as to learn about various culture and traditions of the people of India along with their educational learning. Folk Dance troupes from Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Uttarakhand with the representation of Meghalaya from Gondenggre Village of Garo Hills participated and enthralled the public with their spectacular performance. Mr. Oliver, Programme Officer, NEZCC, officials and staff of the Department of Art and Culture, teachers, students and people of the area were present during the programme.

ARMY RECRUITMENT RALLY

The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has informed that the army is conducting a Recruitment Rally at Khanapara, Guwahati from 11th–13th January, 2018. The Rally will be for Soldier General Duty and Soldier Technical category only for all the 11 districts of Meghalaya. All India Common Entrance Exam (CEE) for the selected candidates will be conducted at Army Public School, Shillong on 28th January, 2018 from 0600 hours onwards. For detailed information, candidates are advised to visit the website: www.joinindianarmy.nic.in. Online registration for candidates will commence from 13th November, 2017 to 27th December, 2017. Candidates are to generate their admit card after 28th December, 2017 and bring it for participation during the rally. USE OF POLYTHENE IN TOURIST SPOTS BANNED

The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, Nongpoh has imposed a ban on the use of polythene in the tourist destinations across the district, to transform the destinations in terms of cleanliness and leverage upon positive testimony of visitors.

64TH ALL INDIA CO-OPERATIVE WEEK 2017 GETS UNDERWAY

The 64th All India Cooperative Week Celebration 2017 under the main theme “Empowering people through Digitalization of Cooperative” and sub theme “ Good Governance and Professionalisation through Cooperative” was inaugurated today at Sajer Hall, Nongpoh by Meghalaya Cooperation Minister, Smti Roshan Warjri, in the presence of Shri H. Marwein, Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Shri C.P Gotmare, Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman of Basin Development, Ri Bhoi District and Dr. B. D. R. Tiwari, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Meghalaya. The week long programme is being organized by the Cooperation Department, Government of Meghalaya along with the State Level Cooperative Federation. Addressing to the gathering, Smti Roshan Warjri said that that unemployment is one of the crisis that the state and the country as a whole has been facing today, therefore it is imperative to promote and strengthen the cooperative movement for creating employment so as to enable the people especially the unemployed youth to make their livelihood more institutionalized. Smti Warjri appraised the Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank for their untiring efforts in extending their services by setting up of many branches at different places particularly at far-flung areas to provide financial services to the farmers and the societies. She also suggested the organizer to showcase all the successful stories produced by the cooperative societies on every cooperative week celebration so as to inspire and encourage others. Other highlights of the day include release of booklets and brochures on cooperative, handing over of mementos and certificates to State Bank of India Employees’ Consumer Cooperative Store Ltd. and to Smti Bluevilda Sweetly as a Veteran Cooperator. The day also includes mini exhibition which was participated by the cooperative societies.

SALE OF CIGARETTES AND OTHER TOBACCO PRODUCTS TO MINORS PROHIBITED

The Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin has prohibited the sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to any person who is under eighteen years of age, at the market place and in an area within a radius of one hundred yards of any educational institution and vendors and shopkeepers where tobacco products are sold, shall display a notice containing the warning “Sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products to a person under the age of eighteen years is strictly prohibited and is a punishable offence”. The order has been issued in view of the violation of section 6 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COPTA), which prohibits the sale of tobacco products to minors, that is below 18 years of age. Any person who contravenes the provisions of section 6 shall be guilty of an offence under this Act and shall be punishable with fine.

MEGHALAYA PAVILION AT IITF-2017 INAUGURATED

Shri A.K.Srivastava, Chief Commissioner Investment Promotion Centre, Meghalaya today inaugurated the Meghalaya Pavilion at the 37th India International Trade Fair (IITF) 2017 held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi in the presence of Smti M.N.Nampui, Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya and Director of Information & Public Relations, Smti S. R. Marak, Joint Resident Commissioner, Meghalaya House, New Delhi, officials from different departments and entrepreneurs participating in the IITF-2017. Earlier, the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the fortnight long Fair from 14th to 27th November, 2017 organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) at a function held at Hamsadhwani Theatre, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The theme of IITF 2017 is "Start up India, Stand up India." The Departments representing Meghalaya at the IITF includes Agriculture, Horticulture, Commerce & Industries, Tourism, Sericulture and Weaving, MKVIB and Directorate of Information and Public Relations as the nodal Department. Apart from Government Departments, 10 units sponsored by different departments drawn from various parts of the State also participated in the Fair for promotion and display of their indigenous products.
