150TH DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF PATOGAN SANGMA OBSERVED AND FOUNDATIONS FOR ROAD PROJECTS LAID

The 150th death anniversary of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma was today celebrated at Chisobibra near Williamnagar. The celebration was attended by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Goverment Chief Whip Marcus N. Marak, Chairman Meghalaya Transport Corporation and MLA, Rongjeng, Jim Sangma, other dignitaries and the people of the area.

During his speech the Chief Minister paid rich tributes to the legendary freedom fighter and reacalled the heroic deeds and sacrifices of the gallant hero and his contribution to the freedom struggle against foreign rule. He further added that it is the responsibility of each and everyone to keep alive the memory of the State's freedom fighters and pass it on to the future generations. It is through programmes like this that we keep the memory of our freedom fighters and honour their contributions to our freedom, he said. He further said that there should be cross cultural exchange of programmes throughout the state to make people aware especially the younger generation about the different freedom fighters of Meghalaya.

A commemorative postage stamp of Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma was also released by the Chief Minister and other dignitaries during the function.

The Chief Minister also informed the gathering of the Government's plans to further develop the Pa Togan Nengminja Sangma memorial park at Chisobibra. He further added that Rs 50 Lakhs has been sanctioned for the facelift and said that work for the same will commence soon.

At the same function the Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the construction of bridge over river Rongon on Rongbing boldak to Chekwebibra road. The bridge will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7.81 cr.

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the upgradation and improvement of internal roads of Williamnagar town. He informed that an estimated amount of Rs 27 cr has been sanctioned for the project. The present Government has embarked on different initiatives for the devlopment of East Garo Hills and Wilimnagar town, he added. During the function the Chief Minister also highlighted the different flagship programmes of the Government for welfare of farmers and the youth.

LAND LEASE DOCUMENTS HANDED TO RESIDENTS OF BALSRIGITTIM AND WARIMAGRE

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday handed over land lease documents to residents of Balsrigittim and Warimagre in Williamnagar township of East Garo Hills District in presence of MLA Marcuise Marak.

Over 1200 residents from both the localities have been living in the Government land for years and had been seeking for land settlement. The residents of the localities had to face various hardships in absence of land documents necessary to avail loans and other benefits from the Government. The residents sought the intervention of the Government for resolving the issue and under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the Department of Revenue finally came up with the settlement land document.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister appreciated the effort of the MLA Marcuise Marak for his persistence by bringing different stakeholders together to resolve the issue. He said that in Tura and Williamnagar, few localities had similar issues with regards to land settlement and the Government has worked out a solution through issuance of the land document that will pave way for access to basic Government amenities in such localities.

In today programme, Chief Minister and local MLA Marcuise Marak had a ceremonial handing over of land settlement document to 17 residents of Balsrigittim and 6 residents of Warimagre.
