HEALTH AWARENESS CAMPAIGN HELD AT MAWRONG

The Field Publicity Office, Shillong in collaboration with DHS and ICDS, Umsning Block have organized a Health Awareness Campaign under the National Rural Health Mission Programme at Mawrong on December 13, 2005. Mr. D Khymdeit, MDC attended the programme as the chief guest

In his speech, Mr. Khymbeit lauded the effort of the organizers for the endeavour in organizing this programme for the welfare of the people of the area; he also said that with the launching of the National Rural Health Mission Programme, it would help the children and the women especially in the rural areas

Later, the chief guest handed over the prize to the winners in the singing and dancing competition

ADVOCACY MEET ON ADOLESCENE EDUCATION PROGRAMME HELD AT TURA

The District level Advocacy meeting and workshop on Adolescence Education Programme (AEP) was organized by the District Level Committee (DLCAE) for heads of institutions and NGOs at Circuit House, Tura on December 13, 2005. The Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Mr. P Sampath Kumar inaugurated the inaugural session of the programme

In his speech, Mr. Kumar highlighted the significance of the programme which aims at equipping adolescents with life saving skills and accurate information for prevention of HIV infections as they are mostly vulnerable in this group. Stating that the Heads of institutions, teachers and NGOs can play an important role in guiding adolescents to make right choices in life, he also appeal to the institutional heads to take out at least some time while planning their academic calendars to give space for this programme and also to lay emphasis on character building as part of education. He also appealed to all the participants to put forth their views for successful implementation of the programme

Over 30 heads of Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools under West Garo Hills District and Sub-Division, as well as members of social organizations participated in the day long meeting
